Bob Evans Farms operates in multiple convenience foods categories within grocery and club. It holds #1 market positions in three major categories. This winning brand has been experiencing strong growth, a trend it's expecting to continue mostly through its leadership in the refrigerated dinner and breakfast categories. Bob Evans Farms products are distributed nationally in retailers throughout North America.
Responsibilities
Position Overview: This position will support the manufacturing, scheduling, logistics, and transportation operational teams in primarily servicing Bob Evans Farms retail commercial volumes. The role will require strong analytical skills, coupled with industry experience, to execute inbound shipments to, and/or outbound shipments from our manufacturing facilities, co-pack & raw material suppliers, third party logistic service providers, and customer warehouses. Bob Evans Transportation Analysts also secure backhaul and freight forwarded business that will be managed by our private fleet. These individuals are responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the transportation planning/execution processes to ensure capacity (internal and external), customer satisfaction, and on-time delivery at the lowest landed cost.
Accountabilities:
Utilizes a LEAN methodology in planning 'less than truckload' (LTL) and 'full truckload' (FTL) shipments toBob Evans Farms, Michael Foods, and Bob Evans Transportation customers
Manually review each route to ensure optimum fleet utilization, compliance with carrier commitments,service expectations, and special customer exceptions while making adjustments as necessary
Make route adjustments and drop sequence changes based on customer appointment availability, ifrequired
Leverages multiple systems (including customer portals) to input and interpret fronthaul and backhaul shipment attributes
Develop, maintain, optimize, and execute the fleet's revenue programs (backhauls and freight forwarding)
Order entry into the Transportation Management System (TMS)
Facilitate the exchange of timely and accurate communication between the various transportation functions (maintenance, cross dock, yard, etc.), Customer Service, Supply Planning, Logistics, Manufacturing, Sales, vendors, and customers
Perform freight market analysis. Negotiate freight rates and service requirements with brokers. Monitor, communicate, analyze, and manage carrier performance. Assess contract carrier expenses and develop solutions to lower these costs
Identify improvement opportunities when encountered with shortfalls in operating expenses, service levels, and network efficiencies
Schedules the pickup and delivery appointments for Bob Evans customer shipments
Schedules the pickup and delivery of backhauls with brokers, shippers, and receivers
Review shipment plans with fleet drivers and contract carriers
Initiates and investigates Over, Short, and Damaged (OS&D) product claims
Systematically execute backhaul and freight forwarded shipments in the TMS to trigger the billing process
Coordinates solutions with drivers, shippers, and brokers when problems arise such as missing loads, missed pickups, missed deliveries, etc.
Cross-train on tasks such as monitoring driver logs, trip reports, fuel tax reports, and state travel registrations
Update the driver tracking file and daily dock reports
Completes all assigned monthly safety courses and supports the Safety Risk Management Program(SRMP) element teams
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum 1-3 years of experience in transportation industry
Experience in food manufacturing/distribution industry and familiarity with supply chain management
Prior experience with managing refrigerated freight preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
