What you will be doing:

As a permanent Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) 1, located within the Section of Epidemiology, you will provide a wide range of disease control and prevention services statewide, including consultation with health care providers and direct services to persons exposed to and infected with HIV/STIs or other infectious diseases. These services include exposure notification, testing and field treatment, and linkage to other services as needed.

You will be joining a dedicated group of staff members in the HIV/STD Program and the Section of Epidemiology. This position includes collaboration with public, private, military providers, and key partners across the state to reduce health disparities and to help all individuals have equity in access to health care for HIV/ STD.

This position provides 11 paid holidays, paid leave, and insurance benefits. Alternative workweek schedules and hybrid telework opportunities are possible after successful completion of training, onboarding, and at least 6 months of employment.

This position is located on the 5th floor of the Frontier building (3601 C St. Anchorage, AK 99503) in the heart of mid-town Anchorage; situated with views of the Chugach Range, Denali, and the Cook Inlet.   • Valid Driver`s license

  • OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens training

  • HIPAA training

  • Requires occasional travel within the State (generally one trip ranging from 3-7 days in length, potentially occurring biannually)

  • Requires either experience in or willingness to learn phlebotomy skills for field testing.

Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or experience in public health, health administration, nursing, epidemiology, health sciences, education, health education, community health, emergency medical services, psychology, social sciences, biological sciences, social work, or a closely related field.
