What You'll Bring:

  • 3+ years in IT, DR, Risk Management, or Metrics & Reporting Role

  • Knowledge and experience with Excel, including pivot tables and assessing and creating spreadsheets, graphs, reports

  • Experience combining datasets and extract relevant findings out of the data

  • Experience creating and developing meaningful PowerPoints to be presented to an executive audience

  • Experience presenting IT metrics and reports to senior leadership

  • Ability to speak to technical teams about applications and infrastructure

  • Knowledge and experience with IT Infrastructure including: servers, storage, applications, network

  • Knowledge and experience around disaster recovery and industry best practices

  • Agile project management knowledge and experience

Impact You'll Make:

  • Manage and maintain detailed information/plans supporting the overall Disaster Recovery (DR) processes and plans.

  • Review existing DR plans to ensure that the plans are complete, current and that all process steps are validated with the correct technical resources.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of DR plans and procedures to ensure the IT services supporting critical business functions can resume within a predefined time frame in the event of a disaster with minimal data loss.

  • Work independently and with assistance to identify risks and vulnerabilities. Make recommendations for improvement of risks and vulnerabilities. Compile results of analysis for management review.

  • Identify, propose and support implementation of process improvements for the DR program. Involve others as needed to gauge the impact and benefits, document the improvement, identify implementation steps required, and ensure implementation

  • Develops metrics and reports based on existing templates and processes. Gathers data, performs analysis, and creates output. Participates in the presentation of metrics and reports to senior leadership.

  • Creates new metrics and reports with assistance to report on risks, outages, workforce utilization, staffing, project funding, and IT operations. Delivers consistent and accurate metrics on a regular cadence. Participates in the presentation of metrics and reports to senior leadership.

  • This is a global role and will potential require Associate to participate in 7/24/365 on-call or shift rotation(s) which could include occasional working weekends, off hours, and holidays.

ITS supports the University's research community with world-class data centers, high-speed networking, cloud computing partnerships and collaborations with peer institutions. Job Family Information Technology Responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing applications, systems architecture, and network infrastructure. Ensures operation and security of all servers and networks. Configures, installs, maintains and upgrades applications and hardware for the organization's infrastructure and for end-user devices. Career Track and Job Level Network Administration Manages the University public and/or private networks. Maintains LANs and/or WANs; diagnoses and resolves network issues. Evaluates and recommends networking hardware products and software upgrades. P3: Requires in-depth knowledge and experience. Role Impact Individual Contributor Responsibilities The job uses best practices and knowledge to maintain the University's public and/or private networks. Monitors LANs and/or WANs, diagnosing and resolving network issues. Evaluates complex problems and provides possible solutions. 1) Configures, calibrates, maintains, and installs server applications, local/wireless area networks, and hardware to support the IT infrastructure within the University., 2) Troubleshoots complex issues relating to the network using remote monitoring tools. Performs analysis of software systems, network hardware, and transmission facilities using a variety of diagnostic tools., 3) Administers the email system, monitors data traffic and controls network resource performance to ensure high-quality transmission. Receives a low level of guidance and direction., 4) Tests and analyzes complex networks and coordinates the organization's data communication network. Removes individuals from lists of authorized users, archives files, password protection and other security measures., 5) Performs other related work as needed. Job Summary IT Services at the University of Chicago is seeking a seasoned specialist in disaster recovery and business continuity to provide leadership to our disaster recovery programs. In this position, you will be working with ITS teams and the campus community to develop a foundation for a risk-based strategy for disaster recovery, guide investments, craft policies, procedures, testing, training, etc. for the entire organization. Unit-Specific Responsibilities Disaster Recovery Strategy (35%) 1) Develop and implement DR strategy, framework and road-map to support effective recovery of infrastructure and applications. 2) Serve as central point of contact for DR architecture strategy; consult with IT leadership and internal teams to align DR strategies with existing platforms, services and tools. 3) Utilize best practices and standards to design and assist in implementation of disaster recovery solutions. Testing and Validation (45%) 4) Work with all technology teams to prioritize the recovery of all networking, infrastructure and applications to support critical systems. 5) Develop and maintain annual DR testing plans. 6) Oversee the development and execution of recovery tests, scenarios and exercises, including planning, facilitation, reporting and oversight of remediation activities. Research and Continuous Improvement (20%) 7) Maintain working knowledge of advanced Disaster Recovery tactics, techniques and procedures. 8) Perform a technical analysis of current DR architecture to determine the readiness to meet the Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) as defined by the Business Impact Analysis. 9) Assess DR solution capabilities and relationships with 3rd parties and provide recommendations for improved resiliency. 10) Develop and implement new techniques to improve recoverability as applications become more distributed and/or cloud-based and our vendor relationships change and expand.
