GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Facilitating access to courses, services and programs for students with disabilities. The coordinator will work in collaboration with the Associate Director to determine and provide reasonable accommodations. The coordinator collaborates with students, faculty and administrators across campus to improve the accessibility of the campus and course materials.

Reports to the Associate Director of Disability/Access Services

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with students to identify barriers to full participation in the curricular and co-curricular environments and determines appropriate accommodations.

  • Independently collects, reviews and maintains disability documentation presented by students as tool to assess access and plan individual strategies.

  • Facilitates the intake process for students on assigned case load.

  • Tracks and monitors student requests for accommodations to ensure compliance.

  • Notifies faculty of student accommodations every semester.

  • Coordinates the provision of reasonable accommodations in consultation with students, faculty and staff.

  • Assists in arranging interpreters for students with hearing-based disabilities.

  • Provides consultation, information, resources and referral to prospective families, students with disabilities, and University faculty and staff.

  • Maintains appropriate records

  • Attends admissions and new student orientation events

  • Stays abreast of national, state and local disability- related issues

  • Accountable for ensuring that affirmative action, equal opportunity, and diversity are integrally tied to all actions and decisions in areas of responsibility.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Majority of work hours take place in an office environment requiring use of computer and telephone. Some evening or weekend work may be required.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in counseling, social work, education or a related field

  • At least three years of experience in higher education disabilities related service or comparable experience that prepares the individual for this role.

  • Knowledge of models of disability and inclusive educational design and their application in higher education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in the field of counseling, social work, disability services administration in higher education or other closely related field.

  • Knowledge of the application of federal and state laws that provide for an accessible higher education experience for students with disabilities.

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Comfortable in developing and delivering professional presentations

  • Knowledge on best practices of accessible course materials

  • Working knowledge of common computer applications

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit with a union title of Staff Assistant. The starting salary range is $57,000- $60,000
