Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities region-and its rural setting featuring 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state's oldest and largest pecan grove.

The Disability and Support Services Coordinator is a full-time professional staff member reporting to the Director of Student Success. This position is focused on providing comprehensive support and advocacy for students with diverse needs, including those requiring accommodations, disability services, and those who are neurodivergent learners. The Disability and Support Services Coordinator plays a crucial role in promoting an inclusive and accessible campus environment, ensuring that all students have the necessary resources to thrive academically and personally.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Provide consultation, support, and technical assistance for faculty and staff in understanding all federal and state laws that apply to individuals with disabilities at the post-secondary level.

Responds to inquiries from prospective or current students about services and accommodations, including assistance animals, available to student with disabilities.

Develops and implements individualized student accommodation plans based on diagnostic evaluation, other disability documentation, and student self-report data.

Advises and assists students throughout plan implementation, including planning of appropriate courses and course loads, and in the development of self-advocacy skills.

Represents Student Support Services on committees and at summer orientations, open houses, and other campus and community events.

Oversee the daily operation of the Testing Center, including scheduling proctors and reviewing testing accommodation requests.

Reviews disability-related documentation, including psychoeducational and neuropsychological reports to determine eligibility and appropriate accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Supervise and oversee the day-to-day operations and services of the Tutoring and Writing Center.

Design and coordinate disability-related student support which may include peer mentoring, honor society, and/or support groups.

Collaborates with other Student Services departments to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access and support including Residence Life and Housing on housing related accommodations.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of various assessments and diagnostic tools used to determine accommodation needs and the ability to interpret the results.

Considerable, progressive experience working in a diverse student affair setting or related field.

Knowledge of National, State, and local laws related to providing disability related accommodations.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

Exceptional ability to prioritize tasks, multitask and adapt quickly to ever-changing environments.

Enthusiastic commitment to the Richard Bland College mission and vision.

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at RBC.

Additional Considerations

Master's degree in special education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Disability Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, or related field.

Considerable experience in working with youth and young adults with neurodivergent learning styles or with disabilities in a higher education or K-12 learning environment.

Prior experience in student support services, testing services, and disability accommodations.

Knowledge of student development theory and programming for college students

Experience supervising student workers.

Knowledge of current trends and issues related to the field of Disability Services.
