Manages operation of Engineering Department to include physical plant maintenance, biomedical maintenance, security, grounds, and construction activities. Plans, organizes, directs and controls repair activities, new construction, renovations, security services and energy management activities. Performs duties of Safety Officer to include collecting data, evaluating safety risks, and providing safety education for employees.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages employees, supervisors in the day to day function of the Plant Operations department.

  • Develops policies and procedures for the department and the hospital.

  • Participates in the Care of Environment SET, monitors and participates and manages Security, Life Safety, Equipment management and Utilities.

  • Applies Engineering principles and theories to ensure best available controls are in place to maximize life expectancy of equipment, minimize down time and improve reliability.

  • Manages Security Services to ensure investigations are completed in a timely manner.

  • Performs Safety Officer functions to ensure facility compliance with regulatory issue effecting patient, employee and visitor safety by staying knowledgeable of new codes and developing program compliance.

  • Manages contractors and construction trade for the facility.

  • Supervises construction projects both new and renovations on the hospital's buildings.

  • Consults with architects, builders and blueprints for complete knowledge of building and effective changes or additions.

  • Assures maintenance of all hospital systems, electrical, HVAC, gases, phones, filters, ceiling, alarms, sprinklers, etc.

  • Collaborates with directors and all departments for problem solving and innovation.

Required Education:

Associate's degree is required

Bachelor's degree is preferred

Required Certification:

OSHA certification is preferred


Minimum of two years of experience is required

Proficient with diagnostic, clinical, biomedical and building equipment troubleshooting and repair is required

Proficient with safety surveys and security incident investigation and reporting is required

Previous Joint Commission experience is preferred

Previous Safety Officer experience is preferred

How you will do it * Develops and implements long and short range plans and policies in support of manufacturing, Division and Group goals. * Maintains close surveillance over operations to assure coordination and integration of work flow, budgetary conformance, schedules and optimum utilization of personnel, machines, equipment and facilities. * Coordinates and directs major projects such as expansion, acquisition and installation of equipment, major repairs, plant layout changes, etc. * Identify and Implement Continuous Improvement Projects. * Lead and ensure timely implementation of JCMS systems. * Meet and/or exceed Business Key Performance indicators. * Promotes and maintains the highest possible customer satisfaction level for both internal and external customers. * Manages all financial functions at the facility. Prepares budgets, forecasts, and control expenditures in accordance with the approved plans and budgets. * Administers company policy, rules and actions as required. * Participates as management representative in Labor/Employee relations and negotiations as required. * Appraises performance of assigned personnel and recommends appropriate changes in salary and status. * Conducts and personally engage in public and civil relations, customer and vendor relations and others as necessary for the best interest of the company. * Manages employee workforce in manner to encourage employee involvement/participation with emphasis on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. * Implement world class techniques such as JIT, cell manufacturing, and process control. * Manages the leasing activities and support of the portion of the facility that is leased to other companies. * Bilingual English/Spanish (or fluency in English/other languages) is beneficial What we look for * College graduate with degree in Business, Industrial Management or a related technical field or equivalent experience. A successful track record of relevant manufacturing and people leadership experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. * 10 years of general manufacturing experience with at least five of those in management responsibilities. * Knowledge and experience in world class manufacturing techniques.
