Director/Sr. Director Gpcr Drug Discovery Biologist

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced biologist to lead GPCR drug discovery efforts at Iambic Therapeutics, which includes leading in vivo and in vitro pharmacology efforts. The job title/level will take into consideration the skills and experience of the candidate that is selected. This role is based at the San Diego headquarters. The successful candidate will have a proven track record driving GPCR drug discovery programs from target validation through lead optimization. This person will join the biology team and advance our core mission of accelerating drug discovery programs leveraging AI. The candidate will work closely with a cross-functional team that integrates machine learning, medicinal chemistry, analytical technology and biology to revolutionize small-molecule therapeutics design and discovery.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Help guide strategy around GPCR drug discovery efforts, mentor and inspire a team of in vitro pharmacology and lead generation scientists to achieve data-driven outcomes efficiently, leveraging both internal and external resources

• Partner with senior leadership to communicate vision and innovation in drug discovery in alignment with company goals.

• Lead GPCR in vivo and in vitro pharmacology efforts

• Lead and manage internal GPCR assay development (biochemistry and cell biology)

• Drive GPCR drug discovery programs

• Lead pharmacology efforts to support the advancement of GPCR drug discovery projects from hit ID through development candidate selection

• Independently manage CRO scientists in the design, development, and implementation of in vitro/in vivo assays for the advancement of GPCR projects

• Guide KOL interaction and research strategy for exploratory and early stage GPCR drug discovery efforts

• Lead biology function within a multi-disciplinary teams/project which includes setting priorities, effectively communicating with, coordinating efforts and motivating team members.

REQUIREMENTS

• PhD in biochemistry, pharmacology or related field with a high level of expertise in GPCR pharmacology

• At least 12 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries, 5-8 years of experience leading projects or teams

• Demonstrated success applying cellular and molecular pharmacology in vitro biology tools to support and advance drug discovery programs with an emphasis of GPCR drug discovery

• In depth knowledge of GPCR molecular pharmacology with specific expertise characterizing mechanism of action, potency, and efficacy of hits and leads

• Exposure to structured-guided GPCR drug discovery desired

• Experience with both ex-vivo and in vivo translational models desired

• Excellent communication and organizational skills

• Flexibility and ability to quickly learn new skills and knowledge on the job
