Position summary

T-Mobile is America's supercharged Un-carrier, delivering an advanced 4G LTE and transformative nationwide 5G network that will offer reliable connectivity for all. Directors, Product & Engineering located in Frisco, TX will be responsible for equal parts vision and strategy, technical solution delivery, and leadership, coaching, and growth of equally dynamic data and analytics teams.

Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for vision, ideation, design, the product roadmap and technical build, support and maintenance, innovation of a large-scale data ecosystem and supporting technology capabilities and infrastructure which will holistically serve T-Mobile data, insights, and analytics needs across various functions.

  • Lead large teams of FTE., as well as onshore and offshore contracting companies with a significant technology and people budget.

  • Develop the deepest level of understanding of customer (internal or external) needs and wants, as well as the core T-Mobile Company metrics their products are meant to influence.

  • Define the product portfolio, technology, and data strategy to meet customer needs and wants and positively impact business metrics.

  • Responsible for attracting, hiring, and retaining a high performing, full stack team of product managers, data analysts, architects, other members of technical staff, and managers to support data products and platforms.

  • Directly accountable for developing strong and productive relationships with customer or customer representative teams, partner organizations, dependent technology teams, and supporting vendors.

  • Create, own, plan, and manage a portfolio of high-quality products and services through a lifecycle of envisioning, including investing, innovating, sustaining, and retiring.

  • Define KPIs and metrics to measure product and technical performance.

  • Responsible for both internal and external data and analytics development, including all aspects of the lifecycle required to deliver products.

  • Regularly transmit vision, strategy, and goal-based communications from executive and direct leadership to direct reports.

  • Develop change management and communications plans and drive execution connected with internal change initiatives originating from direct leadership or P&T leadership.

  • Lead organizational design thinking and strategy to best structure the team and leverage resources, using a mix of employee services, managed services, and other partners where applicable, which will include periodic review of current and anticipated aggregate staffing capacity.

  • Develop and maintain culture, processes, and consistent actions for continuous improvement across agile teams.

  • Be accountable for department's budget, delivery, and service performance, optimizing cost of service delivery and ensuring services are meeting or exceeding service levels.

  • Regularly provide review and guidance to product management and development teams on execution-related responsibilities such as product backlog structure and prioritization processes.

  • Participate in big room discussions including program incrementation, planning, and other major agile sessions and ceremonies.

  • Foster strong working relationships with high dependency delivery teams outside of reporting vertical, including engineering and other P&T teams outside immediate reporting structure.

  • Drive cost out of systems operations and maintain critical technology roadmaps to continue to adapt to new technologies.

  • Telecommuting is permitted, but applicants must live within a reasonable commuting distance.

Skill requirements:

  • Utilizing cloud technologies (Data Lake, Hadoop) and data visualization skills (Tableau, Power BI) to drive business performance management and analytics initiatives.

  • Performing data science and machine learning techniques using programming languages (Python, R) to drive customer experience use cases across business units, marketing, and sales.

  • Solving complex enterprise data problems by using advanced data modeling & management tools (ER studio, Advanced SQL, SQL server integration services, SQL server analysis services, SQL server reporting services).

  • Constructing comprehensive, executive-level presentations and communicating complex insights using Tableau, Power BI, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft office suite.

  • Delivering data and analytics solutions using agile methodologies.

Experience and education requirements:

PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, and 8 years of relevant work experience.

ALTERNATIVE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, and 10 years of relevant work experience.
