SUMMARY
The Writing Center Director/Instructor of English manages the daily operations of the university writing center, including scheduling all aspects of the Writing Center's instruction as well as supervising and mentoring writing tutors. The Writing Center Director/Instructor of English also assists in the professional development of student writing tutors and writing center assessment and instructional design. The Writing Center Director/Instructor of English serves students, faculty, and courses within the disciplines and across the curriculum at Dillard University. The Writing Center Director/Instructor of English will teach one first-year English course, initiate faculty development programs to improve writing and ensure writing outcomes are met. The Writing Center Director/Instructor of English should appreciate and understand the university's history and mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties may be assigned:
Teach one section of writing per academic semester.
Work to develop a place for creating a culture of writing at Dillard University
Work with all facets of writing instruction at Dillard University to facilitate delivery, assessment, and effective use of writing resources
Consults with faculty and assists with teaching writing in the curriculum.
Designs and conducts workshops and faculty consultations on the teaching of writing.
Manages daily operations of the writing centers including schedules and budgets.
Hires, supervises and trains student tutors.
Stays current with innovations in the field of writing center studies.
Conducts writing center program assessments
Oversees the development and implementation of policy in the writing center tutor handbook.
Maintain confidential advising records.
Utilize information systems, as necessary, to aid in the delivery of writing services.
Serve as a member of appropriate college and/or university advisory committees.
Creates Writing Center content for and updates the website and social media sites on regular basis.
Participate in recruitment activities.
Use Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and other technology;
Work some nights and weekends, particularly during scheduled advisement/registration periods and orientation.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of the School of Humanities or the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work-study students, if assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
This position requires a master's degree in composition, rhetoric, or literature from an accredited college/university. Two years of experience teaching composition and/or literature are required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Experience teaching composition in a college/university. Experience working in a college writing center.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
Ability to cultivate and sustain relationships with diverse audiences. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Ability to work collaboratively. Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and pay attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
Sit at a desk and use hand, wrist, and finger movements to operate a computer regularly. Talk and listen to current and prospective students, colleagues, and other individuals regularly. Stand and walk around the office and other campus facilities as needed. Lift and carry general supplies weighing up to 5 lbs.
