Working with general supervision, the Director of Visual Merchandising leads a team responsible for store space planning, current and new fixture planning, budgets, and related financial analyses. Enterprise level responsibilities include design creation and placement of all visual materials; integrating operations, merchandising, consumer electronics, marketing and digital strategies in efficient, profitable, sustainable and user friendly ways that help to drive profitable sales. The Director and team are also responsible for driving and supporting labor efficiency and simple, effective visual execution and related communication throughout all new projects, store sets, and global marketing, operational, and merchandising initiatives. The principal business outcome for this role is driving profitable, multi-channel sales through the creation of high impact store environments and the reduction of related operating costs.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Design and direct comprehensive, actionable store environmental plans that integrate our on-ground and digital business strategies while creating inviting high-impact shopping experiences for our customers.

  • Work closely and collaboratively with senior functional leaders throughout the organization to build enterprise level consensus, including marketing, operations, merchandising, consumer electronics, and digital business development.

  • Provide senior level thought leadership related to space planning and related business analyses to maximize the favorable financial impact of store space.

  • Work with the visual merchandising team to create, design, purchase, and test all in-store visual elements, including fixtures.

  • Frequently gather and respond favorably to multi-channel feedback, including customers, stores, multi-unit leaders, and functional leaders of all levels of responsibility.

  • Verify execution of team's key deliverables, such as merchandising standards, product set integrity, product training, and visual merchandising.

  • Lead the development and deployment of all visual merchandising communications to include essential business rationales, desired outcomes, and functional implementation information in concise, actionable ways in a tightly managed payroll environment.

  • Manage and leverage profitably a visual merchandising budget of approximately $10 million annually.

  • Serve as the organization's principal thought leader for maximizing visual selling throughout the stores organization.

  • Leverage an extensive knowledge of materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing fixture creation, production, and deployment.

  • Manage critical vendor relationships to productively maximize product availability, timely and accurate distribution, and overall relationship sustainability. Create, develop, and sustain productive business relationships internally and externally.

  • Perform traditional leadership and management functions including selecting, scheduling, managing, assessing, developing and retaining top talent.

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • Bachelor's degree with an accredited business or merchandising program required; related equal-year work experience may be accepted in substitution.

  • Five or more years of experience in a related store operations function; at least four of those years must be in a mid- to senior-leadership capacity.

  • Proficient knowledge of diverse store profiles, sizes, and demographic needs and how that relates to stores space planning and maximizing profitable sales

  • Expert ability to achieve appealing visual outcomes while driving operational efficiency and simplifying execution

  • Expert ability to plan capital spending strategically, based upon evolving consumer trends in a high energy, rapidly evolving environment with rigorous expectations

  • Expert knowledge of visual selling and creating visually oriented customer experiences to maximize profitable sales

  • Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using written and spoken English including the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback to team members

  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others; conducts working relationships in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization

  • Proficient relationship building skills, including the capacity to predict and manage behavior, build and leverage cross-functional partnerships within and outside of the organization, and leverage influential leadership
