The UMD Fellows Program and the Individual Studies Program (IVSP) are two high-impact academic and experiential learning programs that serve students of all fields across the university. Both programs capitalize on the university's location in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to enable talented and diverse undergraduate students to excel in significant internships and pursue careers of impact and leadership in the international and domestic arena, as well as create and successfully complete their own majors.
The UMD Fellow Program, which consists of the Global Fellows, Federal Fellows, and Maryland Fellows branches, currently offers twelve concentration areas for students. The program features seminar courses taught by industry experts in the fall, professional development workshops and site visits throughout the year, and internships for academic credit in the spring. IVSP is a degree-granting academic program that enables students to design and complete their own unique, interdisciplinary majors leading to a B.A. or B.S. degree. The program provides students with a full range of academic support and community building activities comparable to those delivered by academic departments.
