Director - Translational Science

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for translational science strategy from late preclinical development through early proof of concept clinical studies. Working across discovery, preclinical and clinical development teams, the candidate will provide scientific leadership and expertise in areas of biomarker discovery, translational studies, and biomarker data analysis to advance the understanding of Synnovation's precision medicines and generate hypotheses to improve clinical outcomes.

The level will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience. This position may be hybrid or remote with periodic travel to the Wilmington, DE site.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Develops and executes translational science strategy, oversees biomarker development plans, and leads scientific team.

• Collaborates with clinical team to implement translational plans including biomarker sample collection and analyses.

• Interprets and synthesizes clinical biomarker data, including pharmacodynamic biomarkers, to assess proof of mechanism.

• Strategizes with clinical and preclinical teams to define and validate biomarkers for patient stratification.

• Authors biomarker-relevant sections of clinical and regulatory documents including clinical protocols, lab manuals, IND, etc.

• Develops and manages external collaborations to drive biomarker discovery, expand pharmacologic mechanism of action studies, and assess novel technologies to further translational research.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in cancer biology, pharmacology, genetics or related biological science.

• 8+ years of experience in oncology drug discovery, precision medicine, or translational science in biotech or pharmaceutical industry.

• Demonstrated experience in clinical biomarker assay development, validation, clinical implementation, and data interpretation. Direct experience in targeted cancer therapies a plus.

• Strong background in biomarker technologies including NGS, immunoassay, genomics, and proteomics.

• Excellent communication with ability to bridge across discovery, preclinical, informatics and clinical teams and effectively manage internal and external stakeholders.

• Experience leading teams and projects; able to clearly define goals and deliver timely results.

• Experience in Model-Informed Drug Development and project Optimus design and execution.

• Mentors and advises research team in biomarker research and analysis.

• Embraces opportunities and challenges of rapid-paced start-up environment.
