Job Description:
OFFICIAL TITLE: Director, Theatre Technical
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Dean, School of Humanities
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise contracted employees and student employees, as assigned.

General Statement of Duties: The Visual and Performing Arts Department at Worcester State University seeks a Theatre Technical Director (T.D.). This is a nine-month position, paid over twelve months, with 12 weeks off between May - August each year.

Responsibilities:

(E) Creating construction drawings for the theatrical design, participating in and overseeing the communication and construction of the scenic design. (E) Facilitating the installation and dismantling of the design in a safe manner. (E) Keeping track of the scenic, sound and lighting budget for the season. (E) Maintaining scene shop equipment. (E) Maintaining property storage and inventory. (E) Maintaining the Fuller Theatre sound reinforcement system. (E) Maintaining theatrical video projection system. (E) Advising VPA Theatre area on new software and technology for purchases, under supervision of design faculty. (E) Supervising student workers in the scene, lighting, and paint shop areas, including students completing lab hours and federal work study students. (E) Coordinating with department staff and faculty about space use, operating budgets, and needs. (E) Liaising with other on-campus entities and outside groups using Fuller Theater. (E) Liaising with facilities and campus police as the safety officer/representative. (E) Acting as technical mentor/advisor to design/tech students on main stage and student productions. (E) Assisting with other technical elements related to VPA Theatre designs as necessary. (E) The ability to create a safe, efficient, open, and jovial working atmosphere for a diverse group of students is a must. (E) May also teach one course per semester (Introduction to Stagecraft) as a part-time faculty member, with additional pay for the teaching workload. (E) Additional teaching opportunities may be available on a semester-by-semester basis depending on the preferred candidate's area(s) of expertise. (E) Position may also include opportunities to design for the Theatre area. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

Work experience with supervising responsibilities. A track-record of work in professional or educational theatre with a history of organization and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

B.A. or B.F.A in Theatre with a focus in Technical Theatre. M.F.A. in Technical Theatre. Teaching Experience in an institution of higher education. ?Experience with creating and maintaining production budgets.

Additional Information:
This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. The firm annual salary for this position is $43,240.00.
