As Director, you will report to the Head of Technology Programs and manage a small team of Technical Program Managers and Program Managers who will own planning, budget, resource allocation, and the operational model across Technology as well as strategic technology org-wide programs at Lyft. The goal of this team is to enable all levels of Technology to operate at their best and to deliver on strategic, org-wide initiatives.


Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and grow an organization of talented Technical Program Managers who effectively manage Technology org operations as well as strategic initiatives, thus enabling the Technology organization to continue to execute at scale, during a period of dramatic growth

  • Demonstrate an ability to structure an organization and optimize it for results + impact, including attracting, growing, and retaining top talent

  • Able to lead from the front, prioritize fiercely, and drive our mission forward by translating vision into results

  • Serve as an evangelist for the team and overall culture, both internally and externally

  • Responsible for people management of the team, providing performance reviews, continual feedback, coaching and career growth for direct reports

  • Work closely with the Lyft recruiting team to hire high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds

  • Develop strong partnerships with both executive and functional leaders to drive focus on business outcomes

  • Build and lead an organization with extreme customer focus, world class quality, and effective communication with a bias towards moving quickly, deciding quickly, and setting ambitious goals

  • Foster a collaborative environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and learning

Program Management

  • Own the framework for running successful cross-organizational programs, their architecture, roles and responsibilities, and the structure to run them effectively

  • Proactively improve processes that enable the Technology organization to scale

  • Establish relationships and close partnerships with functions both inside and outside of the Technology organization to promote collaboration, transparency, and diversity of thought

  • Provide visibility to the portfolio of initiatives across the team

  • Collaborate with cross functional leaders across multiple teams to effectively identify and resolve major technical issues or other program issues and take ownership for driving these issues to closure

  • Collaborate across team and functional boundaries to deliver outcomes for key areas of the business

  • Anticipate and aggressively remove obstacles that slow down or prevent project teams from delivering on program goals


  • Own long term and annual planning for the Technology organization in partnership with Global Operations leadership, to establish a collaborative company-wide approach to planning; work closely with People leadership team, Tech Leadership, and Finance leadership

  • Work cross-functionally to define frameworks and processes that are in support of and inclusive to all functions within Technology

  • Define, own, and lead the operational model for review cadence across all major efforts in the Technology organization, including semi-annual objectives and key results, planning, and project specific needs

  • Partner with Finance and HR/Recruiting to manage our budgeting and headcount management processes

  • Define best practices for team structure within Tech as well as team operating norms

  • Define a standard lightweight process for program and team initiation and kickoff, ensuring sufficient staffing, planning, and communication to all stakeholders

Experience & Skills

  • 8+ years experience in a combination of operations, program management, strategy, consulting or an equivalent field

  • Demonstrated mastery and successful delivery of large-scale programs through a team of technical program managers

  • Proven experience designing and leading technology strategic planning at a hyper-growth, product-centric company

  • Hands-on experience in the following areas: planning & process, budgeting/financial planning, organizational change, program management, consulting, communications & delivery

  • Outstanding organizational, communication, interpersonal, relationship building skills conducive to collaboration; able to work well in a cross-functional, matrix management environment

  • Creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the big picture view

  • Able to establish credibility and rapport with senior executives and technical and non-technical team members alike

  • Exhibits a strong focus on impact and execution, and the communication skills to make this a reality

  • Steadfastly focused on customers, whether they are drivers, passengers, or other Lyft employees
