Job Description

The Director of Talent Development will facilitate continuous improvement and growth in school-based leaders and teachers performance while providing them with the necessary resources, feedback, and assistance to succeed. The DTD will ensure high-impact implementation and management of KIPP Texas systems, and support creation of the plan/tools/resources to support schools to onboard and develop internal talent into key roles. The DTD will champion and coach the talent development life cycle in departments across KIPP Texas, while partnering with school management in regions so all teachers and leaders have access to talent structures and systems and clear expectations for use. DTDs will work in close partnership with schools to build proficient talent acumen in self and leaders.

Key Duties

  • Develop Self: Invest time in self to sharpen saw of progressional learning and programming practices and being an active and planned teammate in team meetings, one-on-ones, and in teammate support; lead team meetings and performance management through one-on-one meetings with direct reports

  • Coach & Develop Leaders On-The-Ground: Attend weekly school walkthroughs and leadership data meetings, to inform weekly principal and assistant principal meetings that help move data towards milestones and goals; Observe and provide feedback for any and all enabling systems; provide targeted feedback to assistant principals in talent programs aligned to their development roadmap and programming goals

  • On-The-Ground Coaching & Development: Support school health by attend weekly school walkthroughs and leadership data meetings, to inform weekly principal and assistant principal meetings that help move data towards milestones and goals; Observe and provide feedback for any and all enabling systems; provide targeted feedback to assistant principals in talent programs aligned to their development roadmap and programming goals

  • Coach & Develop Teachers On-The-Ground: Calibrate with school leadership team members on classroom observation ratings, strong action step monitoring and practice, and intervention planning in service of growing teacher practice; Direct coaching of novice assistant principals around talent structures and power moves to move teacher instruction; provide targeted feedback to teachers in talent programs aligned to their development focus areas and programming goals

  • Monitor Outcomes: Ensure team and school goals are chased effectively and support improving talent development practices, systems and processes year over year in effort to design scaled talent systems for KIPP Texas' planned growth; progress monitor structures with school leadership teams in service of school health (i.e. action step audit, data dashboard tracker in support of building intervention plans with principals); partner with Talent Management Team in service of moving overall school health forward

  • Execute & Support Professional Learning: Execute PL for specific stakeholder groups (SL, AP, Teachers) and work to ensure they have a positive learning experience aligned to KIPP Texas' Professional Learning beliefs and expectations; Identify needs in school portfolio by stakeholder group and roll up to Professional Learning & Talent Programs teammates

  • Coach & Support Talent Programs: Individually meet with stakeholders in talent programs to customize coaching and development aligned to key skills for their zone of proximal development; create and progress monitor intervention plans for specific stakeholders in talent programs around growth and efficacy by skill.

  • Relationship management: Manage key partnership relationships with internal partners in service of managing strong talent for KIPP Texas and building and sustaining talent systems for the organization

Additional Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide exemplary support to clients, including SSP leaders, school management teams and Regional Superintendents.

  • Serves as an organizational leader on talent strategy, providing insight and expertise to strategic planning as well as organizational values-driven initiatives and plans.

  • Operate with exemplary team spirit with eagerness to demonstrate flexibility and contribute to the overall needs of the team as they arise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • School leadership and management experience preferred

  • Demonstrated orientation in competency development

  • Demonstrated proficiency in leading through change, executing on major initiatives, and leading cross-departmental work

  • Demonstrated excellence in designing professional learning

  • Demonstrated orientation to streamlining cross-departmental needs in service of end-use experience

  • Demonstrated excellence in professional learning design and project management

  • Demonstrated achievement in partnership development, including an ability to mobilize people and create champions to support an organizational mission

  • Evidence of developing and executing against a strategy with strong results

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise.
