Purpose

  • The Director of Systems leads a team of SME in supporting Global Exploration geologists in application of specialized logging to modeling platforms, software development, database specialists. Collaborates in geologic applications supporting programs focused on discovery and making this process more efficient. Effectively evaluate and effectively develop efficient tools to geological staff and leadership. Activities are aligned to strategic activities defined by the regional Group Executives.

  • The Systems Director is the Newmont subject matter expert in the development of innovative technologies providing the Newmont exploration teams with competitive advantages in the fields of Databases, Smart Logging and innovative modeling and visualization.

  • The Systems Director leads application of innovative data interpretation and visualization methods including platforms which integrate geologic, structural, geophysical, remote sensing and geochemical data for purpose of discovery.

  • The Systems Director drives innovation to explore in covered terrains and technologies which accelerate the discovery process.

Essential Duties

  • Manage a core global pool of Subject Matter Experts in the areas of Systems development in all aspects of software and database. Constantly evaluates and optimizes work flow methodologies, opportunities for competitive advantage to exploration and modeling programs.

  • Supports global exploration team in developing competitive technologies including Smart Logging and linking of software platforms.

  • Lead development of collaborative exploration technologies.

  • Demonstrate skills in technology change management and the adoption of new technologies within the geological team. Maintain strong communication with global exploration leadership.

  • Build strength of Systems team, mentor staff in software development, change management and communication with geological teams. Maintain succession plan for Systems team roles.

Training & Experience

  • Degree in Geology or related fields with 20+ years of broad industry experience in mining environments.

  • Experience in geologic logging and workflow through to geologic modeling.

  • Recognized expert in innovative visualization software.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing technical staff and understanding and communicating management expectations.

  • Project and change management skills in a collaborative team setting.

  • Knowledge of databases, development software and innovative support software.

  • Visible leadership in safety, health and S&ER.

  • Global leader in innovative software solutions.

  • Experience in working with and supporting exploration activities in a variety of cultural environments.

  • Driving towards conflict resolution and having the authority to make decisions that impact delivering of solutions.

  • Able to communicate highly technical concepts to non-technical management.

  • Cross functional Business and Technical Acumen across the mining business cycle understanding financial implication of technical drivers.

  • Abilities to engage effectively with stakeholders on both delivering answers and ongoing engagement.

  • Flexibility to adapt to requirements from the business and stakeholders.

  • Ability to present ideas (own and others) to the table when not expected to meet with acceptance and spur the dialog.

  • Collaborative team participant.

  • Leader within broader collaborative exploration and discovery teams.

Working Conditions

  • The position is located in the Denver Exploration office.

  • Position is required to travel to, and assist global sites.
