AveXis, Inc., a Novartis Company, is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

AveXis is seeking a Supply Chain Director to lead the Supply Chain organization at manufacturing site. The SC Director will be a member of the Site Leadership Team and will collaborate with the global supply chain team on strategic initiatives and best practices. He or she will be responsible for site Purchasing, Planning, and Warehousing activities ensuring safety and compliance with company policies and procedures.


  • Build a strong team and provide the leadership and motivation necessary to retain, develop and attract high talent employees.

  • Responsible for day to day Purchasing, Planning, Warehousing activities.

  • Ensure workplace safety and compliance while maintaining the effectiveness of the AveXis Quality System.

  • Provide leadership, direction and coordination for supply chain S&OP planning activities that will support global S&OP initiatives.

  • Support established priorities for global supply planning that ensure product availability targets are achieved at agreed costs.

  • Provide input and direction to the development of yearly financial planning and LRP targets.

  • Identify and implement supply chain optimization projects to improve business planning and customer service.

  • Translates corporate goals into functional areas goals while establishing processes and systems to achieve them.

  • Develops/ tracks key metrics related to the health of the SC organization as well as formulates key and effective improvement strategies for the area.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Engineering/Science, Business Administration or a related field.

  • 10+ years' supply chain or operations management experience in pharmaceutical or other regulated and GxP environment(s).

  • Strong knowledge of supply chain management required.

  • Knowledge of inventory management required.

  • ERP software experience required.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.

  • Collaborative working style.

VIEW JOBS 11/18/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-16T00:00 Job Summary The Head of Supply Chain will be a key member of the CMC Technical Operations team which aims to drive operational excellence for the successful development Precision Biosciences Cell and Gene Therapy Products, including allogeneic CAR-T cells, AAV viral vectors, and Lipid Nanoparticle-Encapsulated mRNA. The Head of Supply Chain will conceptualize and implement supply chain processes to support clinical programs and in preparation for licensure and large-scale distribution. The individual will manage sourcing, inventory, and disposition of critical starting material, intermediates, drug substances and drug products. The Head of Supply Chain will work in closely with clinical operations and product development leaders to ensure timely distribution of investigational drug products to clinical sites. The individual will also work closely with the Head of Manufacturing to define and implement the optimal flow of raw materials through finished goods at Precisions new GMP manufacturing facility. He/she will contribute to the continuous optimization of Supply Chain Management tools for multiple platforms and products and throughout the entire product development life-cycle through to BLA. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in conceptualizing and implementing Supply Chain Management Plan, Source, Make, Deliver functions in a fast-paced novel therapeutics environment, with extensive experience managing third party supplier networks with a focus on quality, reliability, sustainability, speed, and cost. Skills in operational risk analysis, financial and operational modeling, and decision analysis are highly advantageous. Build and implement Precision Biosciences supply chain management function including ultra-cold chain logistics to support multiple early phase cell and gene therapy clinical programs through to commercial launch Manage and coordinate sourcing and supply for internal or outsourced activities to ensure timely procurement and distribution of material Develop, implement and continuously refine forecasting and inventory management tools to ensure timely and cost-effective product procurement. Set supply chain metrics and goals Lead cross-functional interactions with key stakeholders (e.g. Development Program Leads, Clinical, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance) to support product life-cycle needs Identify, vet, and manage a complex network of third party vendors including contract negotiations, establishing supply agreements, and audits and quality agreements in partnership with Quality Assurance Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully. Education/Experience: * Minimum Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in engineering or life sciences * Minimum of 8 years' experience in operational roles in the Biopharmaceutical industry including GMP supply chain across all product lifecycle phases and multiple geographies including North America and Europe * Strong Lean Manufacturing / Continuous Improvement Skills (Lean Six Sigma qualification preferred) * Excellent working knowledge of cGMP's and pharmaceutical industry procedures and regulations * Ability to plan, budget, and organize strengths in supplier negotiations, Materials Resource Planning * Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, ERP systems such as SAP, Sage, and Netsuite, and Real-time Visual Supply Chain and Inventory Management Systems * Good understanding of Quality Systems and demonstrates proficiency in application of QA principles, concepts, industry practices, and standards.
