Overview

The Student and Career Services Director must have extensive leadership experience, possess sound judgment in conflict resolution, a high level of customer service and a strong understanding of business operations. He/she will have demonstrated the ability to work through complex situations, drawing from a variety of resources, to arrive at quality and actionable decisions. Excellent people development skills and communications skills are essential to the success of this role, as well as the ability to partner with peers in other departments. A top performer will be learning agile, discerning, personable, and have a healthy sense of urgency. He/she will need to have a high degree of ownership of the team and the outcomes, including supporting every employee in their individual development.

The focus of this role is to promote increased show, persistence, completion, and graduation rates by managing and directing the Student and Career Services teams which provides support in the following areas: Advising, ADA/504, Title IX, Clery, DFSCA, Student Records, VA Benefits, Student Affairs, Housing, Scheduling, Graduation, Orientation, Registration and Student Activities, Local and Graduate employment opportunities, and recruitment of students for Manufacturer Specific Advanced Training (MSAT) Programs.

Additionally, this individual plays a key role on the campus leadership team, working closely to identify and solve problems with counterparts in Education, Financial Aid, Accounting, and Admissions.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and directs the different functional areas within Student Services to develop a high performing work team.

  • Sets vision and strategic plans to ensure continuous growth and improvement of processes to enhance the student experience.

  • Ensures team members implement and adhere to company policies, procedures, and processes as established

  • Ensures high student employment rates by developing employer relationships to increase, enhance, and maintain effective local and graduate job opportunities and by ensuring continual follow up with graduates who are not yet employed in the industry.

  • Ensures Student Development Advisors conduct recruiting activities for MSAT Programs by developing effective and inspirational programs and overseeing job fairs and expos.

  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and accreditations standards through auditing processes, training staff, and holding teams accountable. This role also supports compliance in the following areas: ADA/504, Clery Act/VAWA, DFSCA, Title IX, FERPA, SEVIS, VA Principles of Excellence, etc.

  • Responsible for achievement of department goals and objectives i.e., scheduling metrics, advising requirements, student satisfaction, LOA return rate, local and graduate employment rates, etc.

  • Oversees operation of Student Services and Career Services departments including coaching, mentoring, and development of staff.

  • Partners with other functional areas to support and meet Campus and organizational goals.

  • Manages departmental budget

  • Establish/maintain a high-performance team of professional, motivated and engaged staff utilizing effective training, performance management and career-development activities while leading them to achieve established business results and performance metrics.

  • Recognizes and rewards employee contributions and achievements.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field required.

  • Minimum five years leadership or management experience strongly preferred.

  • Minimum five years' experience in an administrative position in the Student Services office of a public or approved private post-secondary school is strongly preferred

Skills

  • Leadership skills in areas such as motivating, building a strong culture, change management, driving customer service excellence and the ability to create a highly desirable workplace.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Strong technical and process skills.

Abilities

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 5 pounds or less 5% of the workday

  • Must be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the workday

  • Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn, and reason for all of the workday

  • Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods throughout the workday.

  • Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods throughout the workday.

  • May require minimal overnight travel.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
