The Director, Strategic Sourcing will lead the team responsible for American's relationships with all Construction, Design, and Facilities Management suppliers throughout the entire lifecycle, including sourcing, procurement, negotiations, contract management, relationship and performance management. Reporting to the Chief Procurement Officer and working closely with the VP of Corporate Real Estate and their team, the candidate will have the mandate to optimize cost, cash and supplier performance, in order to maximize value and mitigate risk for the company.

What you'll do

  • Lead a team of 8+ procurement professionals to define and drive the global sourcing strategy and plan for all Construction and Facilities Management categories.

  • Define and manage cross-supplier performance management and cross-supplier governance structure. Manage supplier activity to identify and recommend methods to support cost savings, cost avoidance, improved efficiency, and an overall high level of performance.

  • Support the Corporate Real Estate team on critical airport constructions projects to assure they are completed on time and under budget.

  • Research, analyze, and interpret the supply marketplace to understand supplier/market characteristics and identify sourcing trends/opportunities.

  • Conduct supplier due diligence including scorecards, annual reviews, reporting metrics, establish dashboards, and financial analysis.

  • Responsible to drive supplier performance and manage supplier-related conflict resolution, escalation and resolution procedures.

  • Collaborate with Legal and Sourcing/Procurement across supplier lifecycle.

  • Lead overall performance of our contract operations and improve governance.

  • Build strong partnerships and engagement with existing and new strategic partners.

  • Lead strategy to enable us to deliver high quality, efficiency, and world class support for our internal stakeholders and business units.

  • Drive ongoing continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality and cost.

  • Support internal collaboration with Finance to secure funding approval.

  • Collaborate with Government Affairs and CRE to understand each location's MWBE and LDBE requirements. Organize outreach events where necessary/appropriate. Perform tracking and reporting of MWBE and/or LDBE participation.

All you'll need for success

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required in Construction Management, Facilities Management, Supply Chain, Finance, or related field

  • 7 years of leadership experience

  • 10 years of experience with supplier relationship management, negotiations, contract management, project management, and process improvement

  • Strong negotiation skills, with experience crafting strategic partnerships; capable of restructuring major partnerships when warranted

  • Strong knowledge and experience of the Facilities management and Construction supply base, especially in the United States

  • Action oriented, results-driven leader with a natural aptitude for engaging employees, colleagues, stakeholders, and suppliers

  • Proven experience leading broad organizational change and transformation

  • Demonstrated ability to solve, and to lead others in solving, complex analytical problems

  • Ability to think strategically, negotiate skillfully, digest complex details, and use sound judgment and initiative in making decisions

  • Ability to influence through outstanding interpersonal skills and build collaborative relationships with multiple stakeholders with varying points of view

  • Ability to build and facilitate relationships at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally

  • Ability to be flexible in rapidly changing conditions and priorities, and to redirect managers and teams toward new ideas and approaches in work methods

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively and clearly communicate a strategic vision; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
