Director, Sterile Processing

Working as the Director of Sterile Processing Department (SPD), you have authority and responsibility for the operations of Central Sterile Processing Department, including staffing, budgets, customer service and productivity. Additionally, you will ensure that strict and proper infection control procedures are followed for decontamination, sterilization, storage and transportation of equipment, and that sterile supplies and instruments/sets are utilized throughout the hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, develops, coordinates, manages, evaluates and directs the daily operation and activities of all Sterile Processing for the hospital

  • Maintains records and provides reports; assures customer satisfaction

  • Plans, organizes, develops, coordinates, directs and evaluates the daily ongoing activities of the department

  • Responsible for the hiring, orientation and training, staff retention, and employee satisfaction of all SPD employees ensuring compliance with hospital policies and allocating appropriate staffing levels throughout the network

  • Plans, prepares, and manages the annual budget, promotes cost containment, and maintains supply and equipment inventories

  • Formulates and/or revises departmental procedures, evaluates current products and researches new products, devices and equipment

  • Responsible for preparing and implementing departmental goals and objectives

  • Develops in-service education programs

  • Keeps informed of and communicates to staff current trends in sterile processing activities

  • Participates in infection, safety, and quality control programs; attends seminars, workshops, etc.

  • Thorough knowledge of systems: Instrument Tracking, Case Cart, Patient Charging, Materials Management (HEMM) and Budget, as they relate to the SPD department

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, environmental and infection control standards

  • Actively seeks cost savings and cost avoidance initiatives

  • Coordinates the implementation of new products

  • Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety

  • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes, and practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or Healthcare related field preferred

  • Master's degree preferred

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working in the sterile processing department

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience directly managing the sterile processing department

Sterile Processing Operations Manager - 3:00pm to 12:00am Working as a Sterile ProcessingOperations Manager, you will be responsible for directing and overseeing the operational needs of the sterile processing department. You will coordinate the tasks of the department associates, as well as assist in staff training and development. You will serve as a liaison between administration and hospital departments and provide the highest possible level of service. Key Responsibilities: * Organizes, directs, and coordinates functions and activities in the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) * Interprets policies, procedures, standards, and regulations as is appropriate to personnel/nursing and medical staff * Performs duties of Central Supply technician as necessary * Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel, evaluates work performance, and makes recommendations for personnel action * Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, Quality Assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards * Coordinates Central Supply/Services with operating room functions and nursing unit/area functions and other user departments in order to provide services promptly andefficiently * Sterilizes instruments, equipment, and supplies as required; handles and stores instruments, equipment, and supplies appropriately * Maintains the cleanliness of work areas as required * Directs the requisitioning, sorting, labeling, and issuance of professional equipment * Oversees sterilization, assembly, and storage of medical supplies and equipment * Ensures staff compliance withsterilization techniques, policies, and procedures * Supervises, trains, disciplines, andevaluates the performance of staff * Prioritizes, schedules, assigns, andmonitors work of the staff to optimize operational service * Ensures sterilization activitiesare properly documented and participates in the maintenance of departmentrecords Preferred Qualifications: * High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred * 2 to 3 years of progressively responsible experiencein Central Sterile operations unit or similar work required * CRCST or any other applicable sterile processing certification required * Strong work ethic, intense drive, and initiative forquality and customer service * Ability to communicate effectively in written formatand oral presentations with all levels in the organization * Excellent problem-solving skills both one-on-one andin group situations * Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility andleadership; must have experience managing and training hourly staff * Ability to function appropriately under stressfulconditions * Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in wordprocessing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software such as MSOffice Apply to Crothall today!
