Job Summary
The Director of Sponsored Programs provides leadership for the development and administration of externally funded grants, contracts, and related functions in support of the College's strategic priorities, mission, and institutional values of equity, diversity, and inclusion. The Director works closely with faculty and staff to identify federal, state and private funding sources and to prepare and submit applications to those funding agencies.
Essential Functions
Researching grant opportunities and working with faculty and staff to write, and edit grant proposals/applications for submission to federal, state, and local agencies.
Organizing and leading grant writing teams to develop, write, and edit grant proposals. Assists the Vice President of Title III and Sponsored Programs in providing support to faculty, administrators, and staff who need assistance with grant writing.
Assisting the Director of Title III and Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs with developing, coordinating and conducting training and workshops on grant and budget development.
Conduct training sessions for faculty, staff, and administrators
Render technical assistance and guidance to faculty in the preparation and submission of proposals to funding agencies.
Review funding applications to ensure accuracy, adherence to agency requirements and compliance with submission requirements.
Be responsible for the timeliness and accuracy of OSP reports.
Monitor technical reporting requirements as indicated by sponsoring organizations.
Confer with the Principal Investigators on problems related to the implementation of grants.
Assists with preparing all sections of application packages to federal, state, and private sponsors, including budget development, certification & representation forms, agency forms, etc.
Negotiates terms and conditions of externally funded projects, including subawards.
Contributes to the overall success of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs' Office by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
Master's Degree in English or a related field
Experience in all phases of grant development including researching prospective grant opportunities, writing and editing grant proposals to include grant budget development
Three to five years of documented success in securing public and private sector grants in education or a related field.
Higher education experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of data visualization (preferably via Power-BI) to design, enhance, and develop visualized reports in various platforms, including but not limited to employing interactive dashboards
Knowledge of and familiarity with higher education enterprise data systems and the ability to extract data and translate into useful academic reports
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook)
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Excellent written and verbal skills, including writing and editing research reports, creating charts and graphs with the ability to communicate effectively orally
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and flexibility in organizing priorities to meet organizational demands
Working knowledge of statistical analysis programs such as R, SAS, Python, Tableau, or equivalent
Knowledge of relational databases and experience reporting from large databases (e.g. basic SQL querying)
Working knowledge of survey development, distribution and analysis
Ability to analyze operational data requirements and to create and develop databases specific to requirements
Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals
Ability to handle highly sensitive/confidential information
Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, students, and the public
Physical Requirements
Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significations degree.
