The Director, Specialty Channel Operations (SCO) is a regionally, field-based position that provides Specialty Channel and Reimbursement expertise, education, and support for customers that prescribe or purchase Ultragenyx products. Customers include Specialty Pharmacies, Specialty Distributors, hospitals/hospital outpatient departments, infusion clinics, physician practices, government facilities, and other appropriate site-of-care facilities. The CRD will work closely with Specialty Channel Partners to coordinate patient centric service offerings to all HCPs and appropriate patients prescribed approved Ultragenyx products. The CRD will also closely work with HCPs, pharmacists, billing and coding staff and other professionals involved in securing appropriate reimbursement for the use of Ultragenyx products.
Specialty Channel Responsibilities:
Establishes and manages SLAs (Services Level Agreements) and business processes for SPPs and SDs to support the patient centric distribution model
Schedules and leads Weekly Program Calls and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with Channel Partners
--Reviews program pharmacy operations and business processes
--Reviews HIS capabilities and coordination efforts
--Coordinates with Regional Directors and UCLs to improve SPP business processes and transition patients onto commercial therapy
Works with SPP Network to increase SPP access to closed payer networks for access to approved products
--Keep updated lists of SPP payer contracts
--Coordinates with Patient Services to ensure appropriate triage to channel partners
--Works collaboratively with SPP partners on LOA process for product as well as Nursing services
Works with Supply Chain and Finance to ensure 3PL operations support for all commercialized products
Works closely with Field Operations, Marketing Operations and Data Analytics team to provide reports and insights into business trends and opportunities
Works closely with Channel Partners, Patient Services, Managed Markets and Field teams to seek commercial reimbursement for all appropriate patients prescribed Ultragenyx products
--Understand and coordinate reimbursement process for pharmacy vs. medical coverage
--Ensure nursing reimbursement and coordination for all patients eligible for HIS
Understand and communicate pricing and reimbursement rates and coding for all commercialized products to Field, Patient Services, and customers
--WAC, AWP, ASP, FSS, PHS 340b
--HCPCS, CPT, and ICD (9,10,11) codes
Develop and execute strategies for targeted accounts and plans that are designed to secure coverage, minimize barriers to access, and solve reimbursement issues for approved products
--Medicaid (Fee for Service, Managed Care Organizations)
--Medicare (Parts A, B, C, and D; Carriers)
--Pharmacy Benefit Managers & Specialty Pharmacies
--Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and other Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs)
Support access to marketed products within integrated healthcare delivery systems
Develop and execute regional plans to secure access and reimbursement for new products, new approved uses and other product-related changes as needed
Communicate comprehensive financial assistance programs available to assist patients access to marketed products
Sites of Care Responsibilities:
Own the day to day operational relationship with the sites of care, including hospitals, outpatient centers, home infusion pharmacies and other administration locations
--Measure and analyze key performance metrics, related execution and quality of services
--Implementation of patient support services initiatives and programs with sites
--Day to day liaison with patient support services case management leadership
Develop and manage alternate Sites of Care relationships to expand opportunities for patients to access products at the most appropriate location
--Ambulatory Infusion Organizations and Sites
--Hospital and Infusion Clinics (including 340b entities)
--Physician offices and clinics (Physician office Management Organizations)
--Government facilities VA, DOD, IHS, etc.
Educate physicians and center staff on procurement options (buy and bill vs. specialty pharmacy options) and billing and coding
Support Patient Services and Field to provide HCPs and office staff access to necessary information and forms for Site of Care coordination
In conjunction with SPPs and Patient Services, provide HCPs and office staff with processes and information for payer denials and appeals
In conjunction with Managed Markets team, monitor payer policy updates and its impact on reimbursement for approved products
Review cases with Patient Services and SPPs weekly track activities, and share case level learnings with field team
Work closely with Patient Services, Field , and IT colleagues to ensure data exchanges are timely and accurate
Communicate to patient support services leadership key operational events and site-related challenges as they arise to ensure effective business understanding and/or necessary coordination and adjustments
Education: BA/BS degree required
Minimum 3-5 years experience working with Specialty Pharmacies/Distributors (closed distribution network experience strongly preferred)
Reimbursement and access experience required (rare disease with HIS experience strongly preferred)
Minimum of 3 years of other related pharmaceutical experience strongly preferred (e.g., Market Access, Sales, Product Marketing)
Ability to travel up to 75% of the time
