The University of Arizona, is pleased to announce an opening for a full-time position as Director of the Sonoran University Center on Disabilities (UCEDD) with a faculty appointment in the Department of Family and Community Medicine (FCM) in the College of Medicine at the appropriate rank based on candidate's experience. Other possible departmental affiliations are possible based on past work and professional preparation.
The Sonoran UCEDD is one of 67 federally funded centers for excellence in developmental and other disabilities. It was established in 2006 in response to the articulated community need to increase community inclusion for individuals with developmental and other disabilities in Southern Arizona. Serving as a bridge between the university and community, The Sonoran UCEDD fulfills its mission through disability related research, education and training, model program development and information dissemination.
Since its establishment as a federally designated Center for Excellence, the Sonoran UCEDD has successfully leveraged university, state and national funding and collaborations to build a strong and vibrant center. UCEDD interdisciplinary faculty engage in research in areas related to its' mission and goals with current priorities including transition for youth with disabilities to adulthood; employment; health care and health promotion (including behavioral health); and aging families with disabilities. The UCEDD has a committed, enthusiastic and dedicated staff and the opportunity to build on a wide array of existing programs, incubate new initiatives and to make a local and statewide impact on the quality of lives of people with disabilities and their families.
The Department of Family & Community Medicine provides a unique base for the Sonoran UCEDD, extending its reach through the department's strengths in behavioral health, health promotion, and American Indian and Latino communities.
