Your Team

As a Director, Software Engineer

  • Event Management, for the Global Patterns team within the CTO, you will work with a product owner to help lead the critical technology strategy for the Event Management team. Specifically, you will contribute with hands-on engineering to deliver event management solutions to enable resilient, event driven design patterns. You will partner with product owners, tech leads, and most importantly application development teams to understand their architecture, usage patterns to identify and build tiered event solutions. You will be responsible for championing adoption and maintaining a feedback loop to ensure product features are continuously updating and meeting the global developer needs.

Here is What You Can Expect on a Typical Day

  • Partner with your product owner and team to establish key technical delivery plans, in alignment with a strategic roadmap.

  • Build and execute on the established roadmap.

  • Influence product roadmap based on an understanding of the business and patterns to enable event driven design.

  • Provide technical expertise as it relates to cloud, application development and infrastructure as code.

  • Provide technical expertise as it relates to both real time event streaming, and batch event management.

  • Lead with an application development and automation mindset, promoting frequent, small changes.

  • Identify opportunities for simplification in the application development toolset, striving for reduced management and less tools which do more.

  • Maintain a consistent feedback loop with application development teams to champion adoption and decommissioning of legacy technology stacks.

The Skills & Expertise You Bring

  • Deep Application Development, Engineering, Analytics, or similar experience

  • Strong technical experience in

  • Cloud (any of the leading clouds

  • AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Real time data streaming and batch event management

  • Clustering, and scaling to meet high volume events while maintaining availability.

  • Data retention and data offsets, particularly as it relates to multi region designs.

  • Application Development, Automation, and Infrastructure as Code

  • Java, Python, or similar coding experience.

  • Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar coding experience.

  • Cloud Architecture

  • APIs - both internal and external

  • Domain and Event Driven Design

  • Containerization - docker or Kubernetes

  • Information Security

  • Oauth, mTLS, authn and authz
  • Network Security
  • Ingress/Egress controls
  • Observability - metrics, logging, and end-to-end tracing

  • DevOps and branching models to support frequent changes (e.g., trunk)

  • Modular and Reusable code

  • Agile methodology

  • Operations processes to support an active production environment (Developer Experience Platform)

  • Lead and effectively leverage diverse ideas, experiences, thoughts, and perspectives to the benefit of the organization.

  • Ability to learn new skills and knowledge on an on-going basis through self-initiative and tackling challenges.

  • Excellent problem solving, communication and collaboration skills; enjoy learning new skills.

  • Expertise with several of the following:

  • Effective Communication: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

  • Decision-Making & Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

  • Interpersonal Relationships: Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

  • Financial/Business Acumen: Strong Knowledge of financial and/or business concepts, tools and processes and how financial metrics are used to monitor and drive outcomes. Includes understanding of company accounts/metrics (ex: balance sheet, profit/loss, cash flow, budget & forecast).

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Agile Methodologies: Knowledge of concept and principles of agile methodology; ability to apply appropriate agile approaches in the processes of software development and delivery.

Note: Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $173,500.00 to $234,700.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance. In addition, employees are eligible for standard benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental and retirement.
