The Director, Small Commercial (SC) Innovation will be responsible for building an innovation discipline within the Small Commercial Transformation Office accountable for generating and testing disruptive product and distribution concepts adjacent to our highly successful Small Business franchise.
From ideation to execution, the Director will lead the innovation discipline with partnership across Small Commercial and visibility to all levels of leadership. Informed by market insights and our Small Commercial strategy this individual will create a forward-leaning product and distribution test and learn strategy intended to reach new and/or underserved markets and ultimately generate incremental top line growth. The Director will partner closely with internal partners/stakeholders to identify, build and launch concepts, leveraging both existing and new capabilities. The individual will be responsible for building robust test/learn agenda, synthesizing learnings and using insights to inform our SC strategies. The Director will build operating routines and repeatable processes to generate and prioritize concepts, build and launch new concepts and cascade learnings broadly throughout the organization.
This role will report to the Head of the Small Commercial Transformation Office.
Define the Small Commercial Innovation agenda and product/distribution concept funnel to align with and complement overall Small Commercial Strategies and goals
Effectively manage projects of varying complexity in a matrixed environment (i.e. members within and outside team)
Responsible for early-stage innovation design and prototyping based on close monitoring and interpretation of market and industry trends and customer research
Actively work with internal partners (e.g. Digital) for design and UX support
Champion crowd-sourced innovation activities between Innovation team and SC segment
Maintain robust product/distribution concept funnel and prioritize concepts based on potential revenue generation
Identify new target customer markets and deeply understand their risks (includes partnership with DEI to understand impact on product/service needs)
Drive execution across concept design, build, and test and learn phases
Regularly cascade Innovation learnings to Small Commercial Leadership Team and key stakeholders
10+ years of P&C Carrier Insurance experience required; prior leadership and relevant product strategy and execution experience preferred
Small Commercial experience and expertise preferred
Demonstrable history of turning ideas into reality; experience implementing and driving results
Creative thinker and problem solver with the ability to suspend the status quo and effectively translate complex ideas into testable components
Strong communication, presentation, and influencing skills with a proven track record of gaining support of complex ideas and vision from varied audiences
Demonstrated success managing highly visible projects effectively and efficiently
Bias for action and ability to make decisions in a dynamic environment
Grounded in research techniques and able to build effective partnerships that help inform pipeline and fill/vet idea funnel
Experience with digital product design/development, preferably throughout the business/product lifecycle
Experience working with Agile methodologies
