The Senior Tax Counsel/International Tax Director will report to the Vice President, Corporate Tax and will be responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing domestic and international tax strategies developing broad knowledge of the Company's global operations and leveraging a thorough knowledge of tax laws and regulations to inform management of legal alternatives to minimize tax liability. This individual will frequently provide technical tax advice on, but not limited to, global legislative, regulatory and judicial developments, business combinations, intercompany transactions, debt instruments, tax compliance, and tax accounting. The Sr. Tax Counsel/International Tax Director will have the ability to manage, mentor and develop various team members and business partners around the globe.
Actively contribute to the development and maintenance of the company's global tax strategy.
Review major business transactions, assess risks, and recommend optimal tax structures.
Supervise the development and maintenance of appropriate transfer pricing documentation to support global operations.
Research and advise on tax implications in existing and potential global markets.
Ensure the accurate and timely filing of U.S. tax returns (for foreign affiliates) and local country tax returns and reports for non-U.S. operations, including income tax, VAT/GST, CbC reports, stamp duty, etc.
Lead or support global tax audits, ensuring that accurate and efficient responses are provided in a timely manner.
Provide oversight and review on aspects of the quarterly and year-end tax provision and statutory financial statements.
Liaise between the Company and outside tax professionals, including external auditors.
Manage certain SOX internal tax controls.
Work closely with staff, and assist in mentoring, coaching, training and evaluating staff.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (or similar field) required; JD/LLM or master's degree in Taxation/CPA designations strongly preferred.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in a large firm (law or Big 4 public accounting) or large multinational company required.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop managers and staff required.
Desire for continuous improvement and ability to resolve broadly-defined problems by identifying root cause and creative solutions.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills are required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Detailed knowledge of global income tax, transfer pricing, VAT/GST, CbC notifications, and other tax compliance obligations.
Ability to identify and define problems, gather and review data, assess the alternatives, interpret the results, manage the risk, and communicate findings.
Ability to partner with business leaders and explain technical concepts to colleagues without a technical tax background.
Capable of managing and driving performance independently.
M&A due diligence and integration experience an advantage.
Position is in Kansas City, Missouri.
Minimal domestic and international travel required.
