Job Description:
The Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program, including student recruitment, academic support, faculty mentorship, and administrative duties. This position requires strong leadership skills, and the ability to effectively manage a team of staff and student employees.
Responsible for preparation, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the Ronald E. McNair Grant.
Develop and maintain a program that will provide historically underrepresented college juniors and seniors into graduate education and facilitate entry into post-graduate level programs. Responsible for disseminating information concerning the program to interested individuals on college campuses; maintaining a working knowledge of federal and University requirements; exercising budgetary control; and maintaining contact with relevant University offices including Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, and the Graduate School. This position will collaborate closely with the LSU Future Scholars program to strategically expose the LSU community to research opportunities and graduate school pathways, aligning with the President's Scholarship First agenda. 60%
Supervision of all programmatic aspects. Develop, coordinate, and implement special assistance programs (workshops and classes) aimed at improving and promoting the chances of entry into a post baccalaureate program of students within and without the University; and aimed at improving and facilitating academic and personal growth for undergraduates from within and without the University.
Organize and implement a counseling system for participants in the Ronald E. McNair Program. Develop, coordinate, and promote faculty/student research and assignments for target academic areas.
Establish and chair the grant Advisory Team. Establish the research faculty and faculty mentoring programs. Responsible for staff selection, training, and evaluation. Develop other innovative programs and activities. 40%
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree and five years of experience with preferred experience in education or related field.
At least three years of experience in program management, preferably in a TRIO or similar educational access program, or related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in higher education or related field. Administrative and supervisory experience with a TRIO academic support program.
Demonstrated commitment to serving students from low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented backgrounds.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
Proficiency in budget management, grant writing, and program evaluation techniques.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, while prioritizing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
Special Qualifications:
As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an
obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center.
In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
This position is funded by the LSU Ronald E. McNair grant and is therefore contingent upon further availability of funding. Should the grant funding for this position cease to continue, LSU will provide 30-day notice upon a decision to end the position for lack of funding.
