The role:

SoFi's Director of Data Analytics (2LOD) is a leadership position within SoFi's growing second line of defense organization. This strategic role will be instrumental in implementing SoFi's member trust-oriented strategy by building a best-in-class risk management team.

This role will work closely with the VP, Head of Risk Analytics, and provide the leads of SoFi's individual risk stripes within the second line of defense with data analytics tools to guide measurement, strategy, and data-driven decision-making. These tasks involve developing complex business analytics and applying state-of-the-art statistical and analytical methodologies to solve complex business problems. This is a pivotal role for the second line of defense as we execute our mission to help more members get their money right.

What you'll do:

  • Build out the new Data Analytics team within the 2LOD Risk Analytics function, including creating and mentoring an analytical team, aligning key deliverables, and resourcing new team members.

  • Work closely with the VP of Risk Analytics and other risk management leaders to develop and implement a comprehensive data analytics strategy that aligns with risk management objectives.

  • Collaborate with senior leaders in the 2LOD function and cross-functional teams to identify business opportunities, translate them into actionable projects, develop analytical solutions, and deliver useful insights.

  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of advanced statistical and analytical solutions (including but not limited to trend analysis, segmentation, decision tree classification, time series analysis, hypothesis testing, P&L estimation, and strategy optimization) to support risk oversight in key risk stripes (e.g., credit risk, operational risk, fraud risk, treasury risk, and technology risk) and uncover actionable recommendations.

  • Participate in identifying and assessing long term opportunities and the value of new risk-related data sources and analytical techniques to ensure ongoing competitive advantage.

  • Present complex data and analytics findings to Risk and Business Unit leaders, enabling informed decision-making.

  • Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders and act as a trusted advisor in analytics-related matters.

  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data analytics and apply them to improve risk management performance.

What you'll need:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in data and analytics within U.S. global systemically important financial institutions' risk organizations, including 5+ years in senior leadership.

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a quantitative field required. Master's or Ph.D. degree preferred.

  • Deep understanding and extensive experience in developing and deploying analytical solutions from initial concepts to final deliverables.

  • Excellent knowledge of data science and statistical methodologies, preferably in a risk analytics role.

  • Experience in enabling service models and delivering SLA-based services to internal stakeholders.

  • Ability to dive into details to generate insights and effectively communicate complex analytics in simple terms to audiences of all levels in the organization, including executives.

  • Strong presentation skills: able to use data to tell a clear and compelling story; comfortable with public speaking across various forums, including regulatory examinations, and able to effectively and logically communicate when information is being challenged in an open forum.

  • Experience in building and leading high-performing teams, including attracting and retaining top talent.

  • Ability and confidence to exercise influence over a wide range of individuals at all levels of technical and business leadership.

  • Strong programming skills (Python, SQL, etc.).
