Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Research Administration, the Director of Research Education and Training will promote Villanova University's dedication to responsible and ethical research practices. The Director will be responsible for delivering, maintaining, evaluating, tracking and updating research training programs and policies at Villanova, including Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR).

Duties and Responsibilities:
Education Design and Delivery:
- Develop, review, enforce, audit, and revise policies and procedures related to research education and training.
- Work with Villanova colleges and departments to develop and coordinate research training including onboarding for new employees associated with research at Villanova.
- Develop RCR programming appropriate for each career stage: faculty, postdocs, grad students as well as for other students and staff.
- Identify target audiences and devise creative education and training campaigns that engage, inform, and motivate.
- Hold primary responsibility for ensuring that research training programs are compliant with relevant federal guidelines and update relevant policies and content as necessary.
- Stay abreast of the regulatory environment and Villanova's sponsored research portfolio to ensure training programs are up to date and meet sponsor expectations and requirements.
- Conduct needs assessments in partnership with other leaders; determine education and
- training priorities based on assessed needs, impact, and available resources.
Stakeholder Engagement and Outreach:
- Partner with other leaders to ensure subject matter-expert review of training content.
- Establish and leverage broad networks; build collaborative relationships to ensure proactive engagement with the research community.
- In partnership with other campus leaders, deliver initial and ongoing educational materials to the research community at Villanova through in-person and virtual training sessions, as well as through text materials on a broad range of research compliance topics.
- Provide consultation to faculty and other researchers on RCR plans required for external career development proposals to ensure they are comprehensive and meet specific sponsor criteria.
Tracking and monitoring:
- Use available technology to ensure required initial and ongoing training is completed for individuals associated with research; maintain auditable records to demonstrate compliance.
- Serve as the point of contact for managing VU's CITI subscription and evaluate offerings on a regular basis.
- Develop and maintain quality and performance improvement processes and initiatives.
- Monitor current trends and best practices in the industry.
- Serve as the point of contact for questions about concepts presented as part of the training and education processes.
Other:
- Support Villanova's Research Integrity Officer in managing matters of potential misconduct, including assessments, inquiries and investigations according to applicable policies and
procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required.
- Experience with training curriculums and online training development tools.
Work Related Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of experience working in a university environment, specifically in a research compliance or research training role.
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and manage several workstreams at once.
- Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking with an ability to work with numbers, metrics and spreadsheets.
- Critical thinking and communication skills specific to an administrative setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills with command of the English language.
Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
- Broad knowledge of RCR topics.
- Fundamental knowledge of federal laws and regulations applicable to research.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise regarding complex university administration functions as they relate to the changing regulatory landscape.
- Fundamental knowledge of research security and export controls.
