Job Description

As the Director of Regulatory Risk and Controls, within the broader Financial Risk and Controls Team, they will oversee the execution of the adherence, control, and substantive validation program related to regulatory reporting. Regulatory reporting validation testing includes leading regulatory reporting quality assurance, capital planning (CCAR), and liquidity control validation. The position will report directly to the Head of Financial Risk and Controls while overseeing key leaders and teams.

In this role, they will oversee the planning, performance, and independent validation to safeguard external reporting integrity, including CCAR and liquidity control environment. This entails overseeing the team that performs adherence, control, and substantive testing procedures through periodic reviews of regulatory filings and controls. This position is primarily responsible to provide guidance for the purpose of ensuring feedback that enhances the accuracy of reports submitted to regulators. The position will also partner with key stakeholders in regulatory reporting to identify areas of regulatory reporting improvements, including identifying process enhancements and issues that require remediation.

Primary responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Head of Financial Risk and Controls to oversee and coordinate the regulatory reporting validation program in order to meet and exceed deadlines, track and document overages, identify and implement process improvements, and prepare status reporting.

  • Responsible for ensuring an "audit-style" approach is followed and the quality of the work meets or exceeds the program standards, primarily through providing oversight of team members across multiple locations.

  • Responsible for monitoring that the programs are designed in such a way to ensure adherence to applicable regulatory requirements with respect to CCAR, liquidity reporting, and/or other regulatory reporting as required by regulatory agencies.

  • At the request of the Head of Financial Risk and Controls oversee projects to achieve stated objectives.

  • Work closely with the Head of Financial Risk and Controls to oversee and coordinate with both internal and regulatory agencies. Work to add efficiencies and enhanced alignment where possible.

  • Prepare and provide training to stakeholders as necessary to ensure effective programs.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 10 to 15 years performing audit, quality assurance and/or regulatory reporting compliance work, which conforms to professional standards and/or regulatory requirements.

  • Preferred - Experience in capital planning and regulatory reporting within financial services. Progressive experience in a combination of public accounting (Big 4 or large regional accounting firm), internal audit, and/or quality assurance execution is highly desirable.

  • A Bachelors (or Masters) Degree in Accounting (preferred), Finance, or related field.

  • High degree of project management expertise.

  • Effective leadership skills with experience in managing a team to drive results for regulatory reporting compliance.

  • Strong / broad understanding of banking regulations including and other regulatory reporting requirements

  • Strong / broad understanding of internal control concepts, quality assurance concepts and various auditing techniques.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the capability to work on multiple projects with minimal direction in a dynamic and fluid environment with rotating priorities.

  • Pro-active, high energy, and strong interpersonal skills with a team-focused attitude, demonstrating the ability to collaborate and compromise while building constructive and effective relationships.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical abilities, including problem solving and time management skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report development.

Job Description The Senior Director of Risk Data and Technology is a key role within the Chief Controls Office, reporting directly to the Head of Risk Programs. The leader we seek will oversee a team responsible for defining data, tooling and automation strategy, including an inventory of all tools used in the First Line of Defense risk organization. Given the responsibility and high pace of the role, the ideal candidate should have the experience and skills needed to contribute to the continuous maturation of the department and the overall First Line of Defense risk management capabilities. In addition to understanding risk management within a financial services institution, the Senior Director of Risk Data and Technology will require broad knowledge of automation and risk management tools, data management, and data quality best practices to support risk management functions (e.g. issues, risk reporting etc.), and the success of the First Line of Defense risk capabilities. Being able to "connect the dots'' between related teams and workflows will be paramount to achieving success in this role. The essential functions and key responsibilities of the Senior Director of Risk Data and Technology include the following: * Provide guidance and rally teams behind a vision to establish the team goals * Coordinate the definition of visions, goals, and requirements for a First Line of Defense risk data, tooling and automation strategy and roadmap, while building strong relationships with various stakeholders * Partner with key stakeholders to define and drive an enterprise-wide data, tooling, and automation roadmap, in alignment with existing efforts * Oversee the selection, rollout and support of risk management and automation tools across the First Line of Defense risk organization * Drive documentation of risk data, tooling and automation efforts, including charters, standards, and templates * Lead conversations with potential software vendors and drive software selection process for First Line of Defense risk organization * Provide subject matter expertise related to data, risk tools, and automation * Drive a data driven approach within the CCO organization and promote a data-oriented mindset * Coordinate across CCO leadership and other stakeholders to drive consistent implementation and adherence of risk data structure, tooling, and automation standards * Provide oversight across first line of defense data processes and technologies * Provide input into reporting automation efforts * Using data and technology, enhance program monitoring techniques to enable a proactive and "no surprises" approach in communicating emerging risks and issues * Drive risk awareness, risk accountability and risk culture throughout the company * Devise evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements Qualifications: * 7+ years of experience leading and working in risk data, tools, and automation, preferably within a financial services institution * Experience in risk management within a large financial institution * Substantial experience in the design and buildout of a strong risk data, tooling, and automation structure within the First Line of Defense to support risk management capabilities * Track record of successfully defining data, tooling, and/or automation strategies and executing on them * Understanding of business strategy, critical success factors, risk profile, and potential exposures * Experience in leading teams, assessing team performance and morale, and driving necessary actions to improve both; Able to develop and foster collaborative teamwork and facilitate team dynamics * Demonstrated ability to quickly build trust and relationships, manage matrixed teams, bridge communication gaps, resolve conflicts, and influence stakeholders at all levels (including executives) * Demonstrated ability to take industry trends, innovative behaviors, data analytics, and automation to drive a proactive and anticipatory approach to all risk management and control design * Ability to multitask with simultaneous projects and tasks, while demonstrating urgency, prioritization, and ownership to drive issues to completion * Polished diplomacy, active listening, persuasiveness, and presentation skills to communicate new products or changes and gain buy-in, consensus, and cooperation in the face of conflicting viewpoints, resistance to change, constraints, etc. * Strong business acumen in financial services or related industry, and a proven ability to balance strategic thinking with practical implementation skills * High energy and proven track record of accomplishments and results * Strong interpersonal skills, with evidence of working in collaboration across large, complex organizations, including effective influencing skills, a proactive and 'no surprises' approach in communicating issues/requests © 2021 SVB Financial Group.
