Position Summary

The Director, Regulatory Affairs is responsible for leading all regulatory matters related to alcohol beverage labelling, product formulation and new product development for Constellation Brands, Inc. and its affiliated companies. This role will ensure that Company obtains and maintains all necessary product label and formula approvals for the production, importation and sale of wine, beer and spirits. This role also will collaborate with internal business partners on all new product development and will act as a liaison to state and federal regulatory agencies to resolve labeling and formulation issues on behalf of the Company.

Responsibilities

  • Lead team of regulatory specialists responsible for reviewing, filing and obtaining federal label and formula approvals across Company's beer, wine and spirits portfolio.

  • Advise Company on current regulatory requirements and proactively work with R&D, marketing, and manufacturing teams to facilitate new product concepts.

  • Provide strategic regulatory guidance and work collaboratively with brand and innovation teams on new product labels and packaging designs to ensure final designs are compliant with all state and federal laws.

  • Develop, implement and manage a comprehensive and cohesive label and packaging review process across Company's beer, wine and spirits portfolio.

  • Ensure compliance with country of origin and U. S. regulations for products, ingredients and processes to ensure treatments are allowed and that all label claims are supported.

  • Identify, anticipate and manage issues related to federal and state labeling matters by staying current on relevant laws and regulations, emerging issues, industry trends and agency advisories. Report and comment on changes in regulatory policies. Advise business of key changes and potential business impact on current products and future innovation.

  • Provide guidance on FDA labeling regulations, nutrition fact panels, and ingredient statements. Ensure that all products subject to the FDA's labeling jurisdiction comply with FDA labeling requirements.

  • Conduct legal research on various domestic and international labeling and formulation matters and provide clear guidance to business.

  • Engage directly with TTB officials and state regulatory agencies to maintain relationships on behalf of the Company.

  • Maintain a broad understanding of Company's products, manufacturing, production and blending methods.

  • Ensure formulas are compliant with regulations and align with marketing's desired claims.

  • Participate in regulatory due diligence activities for potential acquisitions. Assist with regulatory integration of acquired brands and products.

  • Respond to requests for labeling and formulation guideance on a wide range of subjects while maintaining a good rapport with individuals within the Company.

  • Develop training materials and provide routine training for business partners.

  • Engage outside counsel for expert advice as necessary.

  • Other projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant regulatory experience in the alcohol beverage industry with increasing substantive responsibilities is required.

  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to practically apply beverage alcohol substantive knowledge and experience to business considerations.

  • Strong leadership and management skills with a proven track record of coaching and developing direct reports.

  • Ability to successfully handle multiple high-profile situations simultaneously.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational written and oral communication, and project management skills.

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

  • Strategic and self-motivated with the ability to work and to achieve goals with minimum direction.

  • Ability to apply complex rules and regulations to the benefit of the business.

  • Must be proactive in identifying issues and recommending solutions.

  • Ability to build relationships with clients and internal teams.

  • Ability to travel locally and nationally throughout the year.

  • A Bachelor's degree is required.

Physical Requirements/Other

  • Must be able sit and/or stand for long periods of time, and work on a computer for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
