Director - Radiopharmaceutical Production Facility - CHS Track

Job Summary:

The Department of Radiology, University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine & Public Health (UWSMPH), is seeking an exciting opportunity for a full-time faculty member as the Director of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Radiopharmaceutical Production Facility (RPF) within the Department of Radiology. The RPF Director is expected to have a strong radiochemistry or radiopharmacy cGMP radiopharmaceutical development and production operations background and expertise.

The successful applicant will help support and advance both clinical research, molecular imaging and theranostics programs at UW-Madison by supporting and continuing to build and grow RPF capacity in collaboration with multi-disciplinary investigators in Radiology, Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology within UW Madison as well as external collaborators. The UW Radiopharmaceutical Production Facility plays an important role at UW-Madison in rapidly growing programs involving emerging PET radiopharmaceuticals for oncology, neurology, cardiovascular and inflammatory applications, emerging theranostics early phase clinical research studies, and novel imaging and therapeutics radionuclides with the UW cyclotron facility, as well as with external institutions, industry, and federal agencies.

The Radiopharmaceutical Production Facility is housed in the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research (WIMR) adjacent to the cyclotron facility and PET Imaging center, designed for the cGMP production of radiopharmaceutical agents for translational clinical research and standard-of-care clinical use. This facility is staffed by experienced radiochemists and nuclear pharmacists, responsible for cGMP compliant radiopharmaceuticals to support molecular imaging and theranostics applications.

The successful applicant will direct Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) PET manufacturing of FDA approved kits, ANDA, and IND radiopharmaceuticals for successful production of radiopharmaceuticals used in cancer imaging, cardiac perfusion, and other disease-oriented imaging for UW Health patients. The successful applicant will also collaborate with researchers to help develop pre-clinical and Phase 1 radiopharmaceuticals for first in human and animal studies with the goal of advancing research agents to commercial production.

The successful applicant will pursue a faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor on the CHS Track, with opportunities for additional leadership roles in our Radiology Department and University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.

CHS Track:

For appointments hired on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) Track:

The successful applicant will participate in administrative, and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties is to work in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Responsibilities:

1.Provide the strategic vision and operations direction for RPF cGMP production needs and expansion in collaboration with Department of Radiology Chair, Section of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Section Chief, and Department of Medical Physics Cyclotron Production Facility Leadership

2.Lead and supervise development and production of clinically approved and cGMP research radiopharmaceuticals to support UWSMPH and UW Campus clinical programs and intra- and extramurally funded research projects, as well as collaborations with industry.

3.Interaction/collaboration/relationship building within the UWSMPH network of investigators, various interested UW entities (UW Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center, Radiology Department, Human Oncology,the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research I, the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, etc.), regulatory (US FDA) and commercial entities.

4.Develop deep operational understanding and effective communication channels necessary for highly efficient and collaborative coordination of interleaved capabilities of the PET Imaging Center, Small Animal Imaging and Radiotherapy Facility (SAIRF) research, and Cyclotron radionuclide production facilities.

5.Protected research time and available funding for developmental cGMP radiopharmaceutical research programs available and negotiable (20-30% research/developmental effort).

Education:

Required

PhD in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Pharmacology or a closely related field

Qualifications:

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) radiochemistry experience is preferred

Minimum of 3 years of experience in supporting Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is required
