Job Description:

Description: The Director, Psychiatric Emergency Services, is under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, Psychiatric Nursing, and the general supervision of the SVP. This job has administrative authority over the nursing staff, directs, monitors, and evaluates the nursing service provided while overseeing the day-to-day operations of emergency psychiatric services.

Typical Duties:

  • Prepares department operating budgets on an annual basis and monitors areas of responsibility for compliance within current budget.

  • Prepares and administers departmental performance evaluations.

  • Promotes departmental and organizational activities for providing courteous customer service to patients, families, visitors and external customers.

  • Participates in Leadership Development activities; implement strategies and processes to improve employee morale and performance.

  • Ensures assessment, planning, implementation, operation and evaluation of psychiatric services

  • Collaborates with Executive Dir, Vice President, Chair of the Psychiatric Department, Chief Nursing Officer, and Medical Director, in the day-to-day planning and operations of the Psychiatric treatment programs.

  • Ensures services provided are in compliance with known legal and regulatory requirements with consideration to timely meeting licensure/certification, mandated training and continued professional growth requirements by all personnel. Manages the key ED indicators on patient flow to meet benchmarks set.

  • Holds other managers and supervisors accountable for meeting organizational objectives and assures consistency in performance of staff assigned responsibilities.

  • Facilitates interdepartmental problem solving in complex patient care issues.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from an accredited University.

  • 3 plus years of inpatient psychiatric experience or relevant emergency department experience.

  • 3 plus years of management experience in the area of healthcare services.
    Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

  • Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state.
    Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited University..

  • 5 plus years of management experience in inpatient and emergency psychiatric setting.
    Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:

  • Mental Health Nursing ANCC.
