Director, Program Management-Oncology

Premier, Inc. is searching for a Director, Program Management-Oncology to develop and maintain a viable oncology strategy across the suite of Premier's pharmacy programs and leading the joint venture integration with key Premier oncology hospital members. This position is responsible for fostering and maintaining industry relationships with oncology manufacturers, members of Premier's large oncology specialty hospitals, and oncology organizations. By coordinating the strategic efforts among the players in this specialized space, the Director will be responsible for developing Premier services and support offerings to the oncology marketplace that drive Premier growth and presence in the pharmacy industry. The position will work closely with the Vice-President of Pharmacy, the Vice-President, Premier Applied Sciences, the Vice-President of Supply Chain Strategy, the President of Premier Global Direct Sourcing and representatives of Premier's hospital oncology network.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Work with key manufacturers and Premier pharmacy contract directors to develop and implement oncology product strategies

  • Facilitates goal setting and monitoring of goals

  • Participates in recruitment of potential members and groups

  • Actively develops new sources of revenue and implements strategies to augment and grow existing revenue streams such as gross administrative fees

  • Work with Premier Oncology hospitals to develop a joint venture structure to drive oncology product contracts and formulary structure

  • Work with a task force from M.D. Anderson and others to develop an oncology portfolio (formulary) model that would be competitive in the market and available to our acute and non-acute care membership.

  • Work collaboratively with Premier pharmacy GPO staff to develop contracts with key manufacturers

  • Coordinate data sharing and other value added services with Oncology manufacturers

  • Participate on an oncology multidisciplinary advisory board to drive contract development and strengthen manufacturer relationships to participate with Premier and members

  • Assist in communications to members and education of members

Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree (MA, MS, MBA) required or Pharm.D; Pharmacy degree desired

  • At least 10 years of experince with:

  • Pharmacy management and clinical services in oncology acute setting desirable or in oncology specialty group purchasing or specialty distribution or oncology practice in ambulatory non-acute area

  • Growing and developing new service offerings, pharmaceutical manufacturer background with oncology product emphasis, healthsystem oncology background

  • An oncology hospital, oncology distributor, or oncology GPO

Role Specific Competencies:

  • Established Network within oncology professional organizations

  • Ability to work with major oncology hospitals that are part of Premier to bring together a unified focus and development of strategic direction supported by all parties

  • Understanding of reimbursement and other financial challenges specific to oncology

  • Strategic thinker with ability to move program forward through negotiation, meeting program / revenue goals and objectives

  • Understanding of oncology manufacturers and drugs both clinically and financial implications

  • Understanding of laws and regulations affecting hospitals and pharmacy practice in general

The primary purpose of the Coordinator, Clinical Research Program position is to provide administrative and patient care services for the coordination of research studies in the Department of GI Medical Oncology. KEY FUNCTIONS Administrative Management of Clinical Trials * Manages administrative/regulatory aspects of research trials including federal and pharmaceutical funded protocols, through all components of a study. * Work with study Principal Investigator (PI) by providing administrative support to develop, implement and complete research studies. * Independently prepares protocol documents that comply with regulatory and institutional requirements. Works with study sponsors and/or Clinical Research Organizations (CROs)) to develop budget documents that conform to both MD Anderson and Sponsor requirements. * Submits protocols to the Office of Protocol Research for Clinical Research Committee and IRB review. * Responds on behalf of PI as appropriate to comments from protocol reviewers. * Coordinates activities associated with site start-up and overall financial trial management. * Assists PI as appropriate with preparation of responses to CRC and/or IRB. * Acts as a liaison with private industry pharmaceutical companies to aid in the completion of ICD language appropriate for clinical trials. * Ensures that all reviews are addressed to the satisfaction of the reviewers. * Develops and maintains a processing and tracking systems for protocol related paperwork. * Creates, updates, and maintains organizational files which include all pertinent correspondence and information regarding regulatory activities for GIMO clinical trials. * Maintains an up-to-date status report and creates summary reports as requested for supervisor, PI, and/or management staff. Training, Compliance and Education * Attends training classes concerning maintaining clinical trials documents according to departmental SOPs as well as Federal Regulations. * Attends training classes concerning the research regulatory process and administrative management of clinical trials, including submissions to the CRC and IRB. * Assists with creating presentations/ visual aids for adjunct staff concerning the regulatory aspect of clinical research trials administration. * Assists with creating and presenting programs/in-services for faculty and staff related to the clinical research administrative process. * Ensures compliance with Good Clinical Research Practice standards. * Attends in-services, departmental meetings, mandatory training, and/or other events to remain abreast of new policies/procedures affecting the conduct of protocols. * Disseminates pertinent information to other team members. Participates in the development of departmental policies and procedures related to protocol research. * Assists in the development of in-service educational events for GIMO team members. * Maintains knowledge of clinical trials process * Orients new faculty/support personnel on department's clinical trials research infrastructure and procedures. EDUCATION Required: Bachelor's degree. Preferred:Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Healthcare Administration or related scientific field. EXPERIENCE Required: Three years experience in area of research study or direct patient care obtained from nursing, data gathering or other related experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.
