JOB SUMMARY

Directs and is accountable for outcomes of services produced by the product as the matrix leader and customer interface for the product. The Director builds and leverages strong partnerships across business, technology and product leadership in order to implement an operating model of innovative solutions for Marriott.

This role works directly with customers, product managers and product owners to deliver commitments across the product portfolio while driving the product vision and strategy. The Director leverages technical depth and breadth as an influential, cross-functional leader that governs standards through partnership with product teams, product owners and executives. The role drives an agile approach via standups, planning and process as the "go to leader" for timely updates to internal/external customers. The Director maintains the product resource/ capacity planning across people, process and technology as the owner of KPIs for the team, inclusive of business and financial metrics of product performance.

The Director, Product Management owns the product roadmap, runs technology steering committees and maintains TechDebt plans for the product. This role engages deeply with the broader technology community and vendors to stay abreast of industry innovation that evolves the product offering and its practices

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Required:

  • Undergraduate degree in an engineering or computer science discipline and/or equivalent experience/certification
  • 5+ years of IT leadership experience with a blend of deep technical knowledge and a customer-focused mindset
  • 8+ years in an IT role as a strategic thinker that relates technology solutions to customer use cases
  • 8+ years experience in technology stacks leveraged for the product
  • 8+ years experience engaging highly technical architecture, engineering and operations teams and driving outcomes with automation

Preferred:

  • Graduate Degree in a technical discipline

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of bigger and smaller bets across the team, while balancing short-term goals and long-term vision

  • Comfortable applying a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to define success

  • Good balance of IQ & EQ as an expert problem solver that is to be able to solve challenges across people, process and technology

  • Ability to build strong relationships and network throughout the broader IT community

  • Experience in the design, implementation and operational support of mission critical products

  • Strong influencing skills and an ability to overcome barriers while driving change

  • Certification in technology stacks leveraged for the product (this changes by product, need to put more specific by product role)

  • Experience in researching emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products

  • Experience in developing technology roadmaps and strategies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of audiences including executives, business stakeholders and IT teams

  • Strong knowledge of emerging tools, software, applications, and systems for attaining best-in-class IT technology across the enterprise

  • Strong attention to detail with an ability to operate effectively across multiple priorities

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Defines the go-to-market strategy, product positioning and value proposition for infrastructure products products as it relates to the Mainframe.. Communicates the value proposition to stakeholders and continuously refine the value proposition

  • Understands Mainframe service provider value proposition and how it aligns with MI products and services to subsequently define the value proposition for customers

  • Acquires deep knowledge of the MI solutions and services and the technical Mainframe roadmap

  • Creates the packaging/bundling strategy for modernized services in conjunction with services that may stay on legacy platforms for some period of time

  • Defines and reports on and drive maintenance activities (to include patching), capacity and product demand

  • Refines the structure in response to client feedback and new information obtained (continuous service improvement)

  • Leads the "big picture" of challenges impacting the customer experience, including the technical, functional, and process considerations, and creatively defines the D&O strategy to address those challenges.

  • Acts as a bridge between product managers and the infrastructure teams as the Mainframe expert : be the expert on value and price differential between various flavors of Mainframe services, how much to customize offerings etc.

  • Obtain market data and competitive intelligence to inform our D&O strategy. Maintain industry knowledge and enhance subject matter expertise, identify trends and changes in client and competitor behaviors, and keep abreast of changing regulatory requirements.

  • Identifies and communicates the implications of the product roadmap for modernized services on our D&O approach. Provide inputs to product managers as they make decision about which features to add to roadmap - tie together the solution to the underlying infrastructure component

  • Work with the pricing resource to craft a pricing structure for modernized services

  • Develops and communicates a point of view on complex technical topics. Aligns multiple domains, both technical and non-technical, on this common vision.
