The Planned Giving Director is a key member of the advancement team responsible for successfully growing the planned giving program and legacy society along with management of a prospect portfolio and strategy development of a communications and marketing plan. The Director is responsible for securing meaningful legacy gifts through a deep understanding of donor-aligned planned giving vehicles. This position will work in close partnership with members of the advancement team.

This role is remote with travel as needed.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the planned giving program, setting goals and objectives in alignment with overall fundraising priorities. Build and execute strategy for a multi-touch marketing program promoting planned giving opportunities and engaging prospects.

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, prospects, and professional advisors, serving as the primary point of contact for planned giving inquiries and opportunities.

  • Engage and qualify prospects through personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies. Collaboration with development officers on planned giving and blended gift strategies.

  • Develop strategy for events and other engagement opportunities to promote planned giving and engage donors and prospects in meaningful conversations about estate gifts.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the program, analyzing metrics and trends to inform strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.

  • Stay informed about trends and best practices in planned giving, participating in professional development opportunities as appropriate.

  • Apply expert technical knowledge of relevant tax, probate, trust, and financial/estate planning strategies to address individual donor needs and goals and prepare proposals and other supporting materials.

  • Manage a portfolio (80-100) of planned giving prospects and donors, providing personalized engagement and guidance.

  • Serve as a resource to donors, professional advisors, and colleagues on matters related to planned giving, including estate planning, tax laws, and blended gift structures.

  • Work cross functionally, both internally and externally to cultivate relationships regarding planned giving opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., nonprofit management, fundraising, business administration) required; advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in planned giving, estate planning, or related fields, in a nonprofit setting preferred.

  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills, with the ability to develop and execute a long-term vision for planned giving growth and sustainability.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire donors, colleagues, and stakeholders.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully securing planned gifts and meeting fundraising goals.

  • Expert technical knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and policies.

  • Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation, organizational, analytical and fundraising skills, including the ability to accurately interpret financial information and manage data. Ability to convey complicated concepts clearly and succinctly.

  • Experience with Raiser's Edge and PG Calc software is highly desirable.

Pay Range: $111,488 - $186,656 based on total years of related experience
