General Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Directs pharmaceutical procurement, warehousing, distribution, and financial forecasting activities to limit costs and improve accuracy, customer service, and safety. Coordinates the implementation and management of automation and technology leveraged to support medication procurement and distribution processes. To operate a value-centric program that assures the delivery of pharmaceutical services in compliance with all regulatory agencies and hospital requirements.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees activities related to procurement, accounts payable and data control to support the acquisition of supplies, equipment and services

  • Oversees activities related to receiving and distribution functions to ensure budget compliance and effective inventory control

  • Ensures operations comply with the 340B Federal Drug Discount Program and optimize the financial benefit of the program to the organization

  • Evaluates information or other technology solutions to improve tracking and reporting of materials or product distribution, storage, or inventory

  • Designs or implements supply chains that support business strategies adapted to changing market conditions, new business opportunities, or cost reduction strategies

  • Demonstrates a Culture of Responsibility (CoR) during event investigation, conversations with personnel and proactive identification/resolution of risky behaviors

  • Coordinates the implementation, integration and maintenance of automation and technology to assure safe and appropriate use of medications

  • Identifies opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation

  • Establishes goals, objectives and budgets for assigned areas

  • Ensures fiscal data is appropriately gathered and processed; gathers reliable data to develop realistic budgets

  • Monitors compliance with manpower and operating budgets of assigned area(s) on a regular basis

  • Analyzes monthly productivity reports; takes necessary steps to maintain optimum productivity levels

  • Supervises the storage, dispensing and record keeping of controlled substances

  • Serves as Pharmacist in Charge and CSOS Coordinator for assigned locations

  • Ensures continual compliance with all standards, laws and regulations governing the physical structure of and personnel performance within assigned areas

  • Initiates and implements quality assurance/safety programming that enables ongoing compliance and rapid recognition of deviation from required performance

  • Assures effective implementation of care and process changes that positively impact the pharmaceutical care provided to our patients

  • Establishes and maintains productive relationships with vendors

  • Is responsible for the interview, selection, counseling, discipline, and termination of staff within assigned areas/with approval of Corporate Director, Pharmacy Services

  • Completes performance evaluations for personnel reporting directly to this position; provides guidance to supervisors in the evaluation of their staff

  • Delegates appropriate responsibilities to pharmacy supervisors to manage specific areas to which they are assigned

  • Regularly collaborates with other pharmacy directors/managers to plan and manage efficient delivery of comprehensive pharmacy services to customers

  • Develops and maintains written policies and procedures for day-to-day operations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Pharm.D or B.S in Pharmacy required

  • Advanced degree (MS, MBA, MHCDS or MHA) and/or post graduate residency program preferred

  • Current licensure (or eligible to reciprocate) State of Delaware

  • Minimum of five years hospital pharmacy experience with at least three years of experience in a supervisory/managerial role

Location: This position will be based in Newark, Delaware Compensation: This is a paid internship Start Date: Flexible – This is a 10-12 week summer internship Role and Responsibilities: Supply Chain Interns may support any of the following projects: Identify and support implementation of cost reduction, material optimization, and material standardization opportunities. Support supply and demand planning initiatives. Support Buyers, Planners, warehouse, and logistics teams with special projects as required. Utilizes statistics to model weekly trends in procurement data; reports findings along with recommendations to improve efficiency Develop or improve database tools that quickly evaluate supplier performance, including On Time Delivery metrics. May participate in supplier business meetings and audits. Interfaces with Logistics and Warehouse to calculate recommended economic order quantities Interfaces with Accounting and Receiving to create a solution around faster resolution of invoice and material receiving discrepancies Develop Excel/Access/Quickbase database tools that more effectively manage inventory levels for the Procurement team, helping to meet team objectives. Visualize Oracle MRP data in a cloud-based portal to minimize excess and zero demand inventory Skills and Experience: 3rd or 4th year pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or Industrial Engineering. Interest in supply chain and business demonstrated by either class work or relevant job experience. Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to communicate a clear project plan and drive it to completion. Able to multi-task and be self-motivated to develop daily tasks from high level assignments with minimal supervision. Expert in MS Excel and PowerPoint. Quick learner with strong desire to work on clean energy technology. Able to work well cross-functionally and willing to take on hands-on projects in the warehouse or with suppliers. Successfully identify and quantify less tangible benefits/disadvantages in addition to using hard data in business case analysis.
