What you will be doing

The Director of Specialty Care is responsible for developing, implementing, communicating, and monitoring specialty care programs specific to therapeutic categories and conditions with strategic value to Albertsons Companies Specialty Care. The Director will oversee the Specialty Care team in Boise, ID, and Livonia, MI, and partner with the Division Directors of Pharmacy Operations and Division Patient Care Service Managers to implement new programs, ensure quality controls are in place for existing programs, and implement systems and processes to maximize efficiency.

The Director will be responsible for the oversight of all Specialty AOP initiatives and collaborating with the Patient Care and Rx Procurement teams in Specialty growth initiatives. In addition, the Director will be responsible for promoting Albertsons Companies Specialty Care solution for Specialty fulfillment to third-party payers and employers working closely with Managed Care

Main responsibilities

  • Works with the Rx Procurement team in exceeding manufacturer expectations for specialty medication programs. Designs, develops, and tracks ROI for programs with manufacturers, HUBs, other specialty pharmacies, physician groups, employers and third-party payers.

  • Oversee, develop, and monitor specialty care team. Ensure all specialty care technicians and pharmacists receive the training necessary for the optimal use of the care coordination system relevant to their responsibilities. Ensure the workload is balanced and sufficient duplication and cross-training is in-place to ensure no interruption in care for patients.

  • Maintain specialty pharmacy P&L and react to metrics as appropriate to increase productivity and profitability. Ensure specialty team is aligned to meet AOP goals and report on progress as necessary regularly. Align the Boise and Livonia specialty teams on operational aspects of the business. Own specialty's strategic initiatives and operational execution.

  • Build relationships and work closely with Managed Care to execute contracts with payers for specialty pharmacy medications and services.

  • Work with the Product and Marketing teams to develop strategies and enhancements to the Specialty offerings.

This involves the ability to identify requirements of internal and external customers, focus on achieving optimal results, and develop solutions that positively affect patient satisfaction. This also involves emphasizing the importance of demonstrating good customer service to all and put in place practices that help promote a patient centered culture of care.

  • Written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in writing, write in a clear and concise manner to peers, vendors, supervisors, or customers. This also includes the ability to target material to the appropriate audience and use correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

  • Oral communication skills, including the ability to speak in a clear and concise manner to peers, vendors, supervisors, or customers one-on-one, in a small group, or in large formal presentations

We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:

  • Degree in Pharmacy required (B.S. or PharmD).

  • Minimum 3 years clinical or patient care experience.

  • Experience managing people.

  • Negotiating contracts and agreements with vendors.

  • Previous call center experience preferred.

  • Understanding of community pharmacy practice or specialty pharmacy practice.

  • Comprehension of state and federal pharmacy laws.

  • Knowledge of emerging Specialty Pharmacy (SP) medications and therapy trends.

  • Ability to analyze financial reports.

  • Experience with MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access)
