Position Summary:

Plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates the provision of pharmacy services to the Medical Center's patients, employees, and medical staff. Ensures compliancy with the Food and Drug Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, and as well to meet the standards of the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program. Monitors and controls revenue and expense budgets, allocates and manages the human resources of the department, and is responsible for implementation of Medical Center policies, as well as development of departmental policies and procedures. Provides for a safe and effective drug distribution system, a cost-effective pharmaceutical purchasing program, and for comprehensive dissemination of drug information to patients and staff. Supports the mission and philosophy of Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Additional Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a close working relationship with the medical center administration, department heads, subordinates and medical staff.

  • Makes projections concerning capital expenditures, revenues and expense budgets, workload statistics, and staffing patterns for review and approval by administration.

  • Prepares financial reports, monitors revenues, expenses, workload and allocation of manpower.

  • Facilitates and monitors quality assurance programs for the department.

  • Represents the Medical Center in the formulation of bids and implementation of purchasing contracts for drugs.

  • Manages departmental personnel through the processes of recruitment, interviewing, hiring, evaluation, counseling, and disciplinary activities.

  • Strategically plans direction and growth for the department.

  • Ensures that important processes and activities are measured, assessed, and improved systematically throughout the organization; participates in performance improvement activities; allocates adequate resources to support these activities; organizes staff training in methods of performance improvement; and reports relevant information to the Quality Office and the Safety Office.

  • Directs and/or participates in education programs for pharmacy residents, students, interns and externs, as well as other members of the allied health care team.

  • Establishes rates for provision of services rendered by the department, within the guidelines established by medical center administration.

  • Represents the department, or appoints representatives from the department, to serve on the various medical center and medical staff committees.

  • Participates in professional organization work and effectively precepts students, interns and residents.

  • Attends seminars and inservices for the purposes of self‑development and to meet the continuing education requirement for registration as a pharmacist in the State of Ohio.

  • Meets regularly with departmental members of the FRMC Management Team and pharmacists to communicate medical center policies and procedures.

  • Serves as a member for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee; develops direction and assistance for P & T activities.

  • Reviews and acts upon the reports of authorized accreditation and inspection agencies such as the FDA, DEA Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, Bureau of ATF, Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program, Ohio Department of Health, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

  • Completes the Management Development Plan, as modified from time to time, in the timeframe outlined by the Vice President of Operations.

  • Participates in special projects, committees, and functions as directed by the Medical Center's administration.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited school; M.S./M.B.A., preferred.

  • Must be licensed by the State of Ohio and have at least 3 years of managerial experience in a progressive medical center pharmacy environment.

  • Ability to read and write small letters and numbers and perform complex arithmetic and financial applications.

  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in both written and oral form.

  • Punctual attendance at assigned work location is required.

  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Medical Center emergency codes.

  • Ability to comply with OSHA regulations, USP 797/800 requirements, and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment. Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms.
