POSITION SUMMARY

  • Provides leadership, direction and administrative oversight for the operations of the Pharmacy

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs all job duties and functions will be within the scope of practice for a Registered Pharmacist, as defined by the Oregon State Board of Pharmacy

  • Develops goals/objectives and implements policies as necessary to support the hospital's strategic plan

  • Establishes satisfactory methods of drug distribution and control

  • Establishes quality specifications for all drugs and chemicals used in the hospital in accordance with the recommendations of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee

  • Reviews and keeps current the organization of the department in order to delineate authority, responsibilities and to enhance lines of communication

  • Maintains departmental records as required

  • Interviews, selects, evaluates, counsels and, commends or terminates, employees according to departmental and hospital policy

  • Oversees departmental work scheduling and approves payroll time records

  • Coordinates and presents department staff meetings and in-services

  • Develops and implements a departmental plan for employee development

  • Recognizes the importance of patient/customer and employee satisfaction, and takes appropriate action to improve unit performance

  • Determines job objectives, work methods and performance standards; review their performance relative to departmental objectives discussion appraisal with each employee and performance; authorize and communicate salary changes, promotions, transfers, discipline and discharge and administer all other personnel actions

  • Recognizes organization lines within the department; keep employees informed of matters affecting their work and interest; interprets and explains hospital policies and procedures, department objectives, operations, services, organization, budget and seek comments and suggestions from employees

  • Prepares reports, records and analysis of department operations, and advises Administration, Patient Care Committee, and Medical Staff of departmental activities, issues and concerns

  • Consults with Pharmacists and other pharmacy staff to perform daily functions and work duties

  • Attends department staff meetings and plans and implements new services in order to maintain current with accepted practices

  • Develops and oversees a departmental QI program and actively participates in hospital-wide QI activities

  • Makes budget recommendations for capital equipment needs and operational expenses along with a projection of departmental revenues; ensures achievement of approved budget targets

  • Remains current and competent in technology issues relating to current Pharmacy practice in the hospital setting

  • Serves on committees as appropriate

  • Operates department equipment competently

  • Attends regional hospital pharmacy meetings and seminars

Minimum Requirements

  • Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public

  • Demonstrates strong financial management and organizational skills and proven leadership ability

  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

  • Current Oregon Pharmacist Licensure

  • Board mandated PIC training

  • Pharm D preferred

  • Master of Science in Health Care Administration or related field preferred

  • Completion of an ASHP accredited residency program preferred

EXPERIENCE

(Essential job requirements listed in bold)

  • Five years of clinical experience

  • Three years of supervisory experience in an acute care Pharmacy setting required

  • Working knowledge of but not limited to: label maker, unit-dose packaging machine, heat-sealer for single unit dose packaging, cassette drawers, automated dispensing system and vertical/horizontal intravenous hoods
