• In this position you will:
• Provide leadership for patient care management, operational management, human resource management, and fiscal management of units and services within the Perioperative Department, including the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, the Surgery Medical Admit Unit and Pre-Surgical Screening, Endoscopy/Minor Procedures, and Cath Lab Nursing.
• Be accountable for the multidisciplinary approach to the quality improvement process through assessment, evaluation, analysis, and revision of intradepartmental and interdepartmental systems that allow for enhanced productivity, cost reduction, physician satisfaction, and patient care. Work closely with the managers to promote positive staff morale, which includes involvement of staff in program development and systems, and the facilitation of staff shared decision making on issues affecting their patient care. She/He is accountable for monitoring the quality of care provided on units/services as defined by unit Performance Improvement programs, as well as through informal methods.
• Mentor and develop unit managers and promote a positive teamwork environment, which includes unit management support, supervision in program development, and participation in the development of effective operational and marketing strategies for particular services. The Director is responsible for the selection, development, and evaluation of Nurse Managers, Computer Specialist, Purchasing Coordinator and Secretaries.


Qualifications:

• Required qualifications for this position include:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field
• Master's Degree in Nursing/Business or related field
• Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington
• 5 years of current nursing experience, two of which were in management

Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Nursing experience in the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit and/or in an Outpatient Surgery setting

We have an immediate opening for a full-time Director of Nursing Services (DNS). As the DNS for SVH, you will lead the Nursing Department and be responsible for planning, organization, direction, compliance, supervision and evaluation of all nursing services provided in a skilled nursing and assisted living Veterans home. Duties Some of what you will be doing: This position serves as the Director of Nursing Services (DNS) for The Spokane Veterans Home, reporting directly to the Administrator. This position promotes quality care through effective leadership, employee support, participative management, open communication and educated decision making. This position is an active participant in establishment and oversight of nursing policies and procedures as well as input for agency policies and procedures. Assures that proper policies and procedures are adopted and enacted to exceed the requirements of Medicare, Medicaid and the Veterans Administration. Manages the nursing services of the Spokane Veterans Home providing skilled nursing care, assisted living and independent living services to residents of the home. Key Responsibilities: Plans, leads, organizes and controls work performed by the Spokane Veterans Home Nursing Services. Assures appropriate and optimum use of the organization's resources (including both budget and staff resources). Enhances proficiency and effectiveness of employees through timely appraisal, training, coaching and counseling; and professional development opportunities. Supports effective communications, both written and verbal (including public speaking) throughout the organization. Maintains the highest standards of personal/professional and ethical conduct and supports the state's goal for a diverse work force. Maintains effective collaboration and respectful working relationships with external and internal stakeholders and customers. Oversees and assures development and implementation of policies and procedures necessary to provide structure for nursing and health care programs. Plans for needs and improvements of nursing and health care programs and their evaluation; participates in total facility program planning and development; cooperates and plans with other facility departments for optimum operation of interrelated functions. Directs, supervises, coaches, and mentors nursing personnel and is responsible for developing, organizing, and evaluating nursing care program. Ensures compliance and training needs through programs, such as utilization review, quality assurance, infection control and medication error review. Participates in conferences and lectures to professional and lay groups as necessary in support of facility objectives and obligations. Prepares reports, memoranda, and directives; answers correspondence pertaining to welfare of residents and the business of the nursing department. Manages contracted services for quality and serves as operational process owner. Demonstrates the principles of quality improvement management, identifying opportunities for service improvement and ensuring implementation and maintenance of those improvements. Demonstrates project management skills including ability to set and meet deadlines with proven results. Qualifications Required Qualifications: An unencumbered Registered Nurse License for the State of Washington Five years experience in long term care to include supervision and management. Five years experience in nursing practice, supervision and management of professional staff. Desired Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Demonstrated experience in the delivery and monitoring of social and health service programs and working with vulnerable adults in a medical community. Knowledge of geriatrics, developmental disabilities, and mental illnesses. Demonstrate an extensive understanding of state and federal regulations, and interpretations pertaining to nursing homes and specific to the Veterans Administration. Familiarity with the civil and criminal law and professional regulations related to abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults. Understanding of the legislative processes and organizational structure responsibilities and operational procedures of the administration and other state agencies in regards to nursing homes.
