Position Purpose:
Provides nursing leadership for Surgical Services. Has operational responsibilities, budget, and strategic planning for the surgical departments. Coordinates with vice president of patient services, and physician representatives to formulate and achieve organizational goals. Acts as a role model and change agent by initiating and accepting changes for improved patient care and cost reduction.
What you will Do:
Develops an annual operational plan (including scope of service) integrated with Mercy's strategic plan and related departments operational plans in order to efficiently provide services.
Develops and maintains departmental staffing plan detailing appropriate associate classifications and qualifications consistent with the department's operational plan, projected volumes, and other relevant indicators.
Participates in annual human resource planning process providing recommendations for staffing proactive recruitment and long- term needs. Assures daily staffing adheres to plan.
Continuously assesses and improves the department's performance based on, but not limited to the department's quality plan monitors, process improvement initiatives, patient/associate satisfaction data and associate safety and injury prevention.
Interviews and selects qualified staff and assures associates are appropriately oriented. Continually develops staff through competency assessments, in-services and continuing education, and performance appraisal process.
Develops annual operating and capital budgets, monitors, and analyzes ongoing performance and productivity and implements necessary corrective plans.
Maintains effective inter-departmental communication and cooperation. Maintains high levels of employee engagement in areas of responsibility. Works with each employee to clarify the outcomes that are expected and coaches toward success. Guides others in continuous learning and growth and best fit in the organization. Regularly recognizes other for their contributions.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of a program in professional nursing
Current RN license in the state of Iowa.
Masters Degree in Nursing is required.
A minimum of five years of clinical nursing practice, two years of experience as a nurse in the perioperative area.
Progressive clinical and leadership experiences which demonstrate success in patient care and nursing leadership.
