Agios ( is a biopharmaceutical company committed to applying our scientific leadership in cellular metabolism to transform the lives of patients with cancer and rare genetic diseases. We are growing rapidly with an active research and discovery pipeline across both therapeutic areas. Agios has two approved oncology precision medicines and multiple first-in-class investigational therapies in clinical and/or preclinical development.

Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Director, Payor Marketing to join our growing Market Access team. The Director will be responsible for leading effort to establish and reinforce the value-proposition for Agios drugs in oncology and rare genetic diseases. This will involve developing the strategy, story, messages and tactics used by the Market Access field team in their interactions with payers and formulary decision-makers and in non-personal promotions. In addition, the Director will develop reimbursement and financial assistance resources to support providers and patients utilizing the myAgios Patient Support Services program across our future portfolio of products. As Agios expands globally, the Director will also have coordinating responsibilities with other global market access roles to ensure Agios products are achieving their highest reimbursement potential.

Reporting to the Vice President, Market Access, the Director, Payor Marketing is a key member of the Market Access team and will work closely with Brand Marketing, Medical Affairs HEOR, and global access colleagues to ensure goal alignment and to meet corporate objectives. Strong collaboration, communication, vendor management, clinical understanding, and presentation skills are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and communicate the brand's value story and payor plan with HEOR and the National Account Team, respectively for key audiences

  • Evaluate payor reaction to disease messages and value story, assess value gaps, and close gaps using appropriate evidence

  • Translate clinical trial or real world evidence to shape the value strategy and to create payor marketing messages and materials

  • Deliver approved payor resources to the Market Access field team that improve the quality of their interactions with customers and address competition

  • Maintain branding for myAgios Patient Support Services program and enhance patient support collateral (print and digital) that increase customer, patient and caregiver awareness of and engagement with the program. Integrate these resources with patient and professional portals

  • Build and manage internal approvals for reimbursement and clinical support resources

  • Ensure field sales team and medical science liaisons are properly trained on the benefits of the myAgios programs and/or economic resources, like dossiers and BIM models

  • Manage all payor/pharmacy insight-gathering projects: advisory boards, specialist panels, ad hoc market research

  • Plan and manage payor agency of record activities and budget

  • Understand behaviors and motivators of commercial payors

  • Provide payor-related insights to Agios Program Teams in Oncology and Rare Genetic Diseases

Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge of US payor coverage and reimbursement environment, CMS policies and OIG opinions pertaining to manufacturer access and product support services

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical channel dynamics, including distribution and specialty pharmacy. Knowledge of companion diagnostics is a plus

  • Ability to translate clinical data into economic messages

  • Marketing or other relevant strategic planning and execution skills including: branding, project management, and working collaboratively with agencies and vendors

  • Use insights and innovation to develop and deliver resources in a high impact and cost-effective way

  • Skilled in completing long-term projects on time and within budget

  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment generally under little supervision, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and communicate complex information clearly

  • Ability to foster relationships, build alignment, negotiate and collaborate with home office and field sales team in Commercial and Medical Affairs

  • Ability to travel to meetings, conferences, market research, and advisory boards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree, advanced degree (MBA) preferred and a minimum of 5 years marketing or agency experience in biotech/pharmaceuticals, or an equivalent combination of experience and education

  • Oncology and/or rare genetic disease experience preferred

  • Managed markets experience (field based role, planning/strategy, or marketing)

  • Knowledge of European HTA pricing and reimbursement environment

  • Experience managing multiple vendors providing services intended to improve the patient experience

  • Experience negotiating complex agency contracts with performance metrics
