Description: The Director of Patient Access Services directs all functions of District wide patient access functions including, but not limited to all facets of Inpatient, Emergency Department, and Outpatient Clinics as it relates to registration, insurance verification and payer authorization. This job integrates the division's services with the primary functions for the district such as: developing and implementing policies and procedures that guide and support services, assesses and improves division performance, and ensures orientation and continuing education of the division staff. This leader serves as the key promoter of Patient Access Services to improve qualitative and quantitative results in revenue cycle performance and efficiency.
Prepares department operating budgets on an annual basis and monitors areas of responsibility for compliance within current budget.
Prepares and administers departmental performance evaluations.
Promotes departmental and organizational activities for providing courteous customer service to patients, families, visitors and external customers.
Participates in Leadership Development activities; implement strategies and processes to improve employee morale and performance.
Oversees facility operations of Pre-Arrival service functions (e.g. pre-registration, benefit verification, pre-authorization, admission/ registration, service pre-payment, for all specialty and primary care clinics, etc) to ensure daily operations are maintained according to defined customer service standards.
Oversees authorization requirements for surgery, oncology, other specialized services or medications to ensure reimbursement for scheduled services.
Reviews patient access service team performance to ensure timeliness, accuracy, compliance and standards fulfillment as defined in service level agreements. Prepare reports to share with appropriate senior executives and board members.
Oversees management of patient access service personnel, providing recommendations for hiring, promotion, salary adjustment and personnel action where appropriate. Perform staff reviews and prepare performance documents for direct reports.
Maintains a collaborative relationship with providers and service line leaders to resolve patient financial clearance challenges.
Maintains positive relationships and align service standards with members of the Revenue Cycle Team. Promotes and contributes positively to the team by working to assist co-workers, contributing ideas and problem solving with co-workers and contributes positively to intra-departmental and inter-departmental relationships.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare or related field of study from an accredited college or university.
8 plus years of hospital registration management, billing or reimbursement experience.
10 plus years of management experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's degree in Business, Healthcare or related field of study from an accredited college or university.
10 plus years of hospital registration management, billing or reimbursement experience.
Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
Health Access Manager Certification through the National Association of Healthcare Access Management.
