Job Summary

The Nurse Director is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care in a single unit or specialized area. He/she provides leadership to the nursing staff members.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) required.

Minimum Work Experience

Two years' experience as a charge nurse with demonstrated administrative and supervisory competence required.

Current RN license required

BLS required

ACLS required

PALS required

ASLS preferred

Verbal and written ability to give information and present ideas essential in administrative management.

Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.

Essential Functions

Responsible for collaborating with other departments regarding resources and services for improved patient care.

Performs functions of a registered nurse - uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of patients.

Supervise and coordinate care in a manner to ensure that patient needs are provided in an efficient manner.

Provide excellent customer service.

Conducts interviews, hires new staff, and takes and active role in the orientation of new staff.

Completes reports, projects, and unit goals within specified time-frame and according to pre-established guidelines.

Professionalism - applies knowledge to practice through participation in performance improvement activities and application of nursing research.

Pursues ongoing continuing education to remain current in practice.

Under the general direction of the CNO oversees the operation of the nursing unit.

Demonstrates flexibility in response to new and improved work processes.

Maintains EOC standards by knowing and following procedures in emergency management, hazardous material management, life safety, fire safety, infection control, and security.

Possess the knowledge to safely apply theory and practice when providing, planning and assigning nursing care.

Complies with regulatory requirements and Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

Productivity - ensures completion of assigned workloads and moves to unassigned work at own initiative.

Documentation is reflective of care provided to ensure accurate charges are placed.

Plans strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption, and improve patient outcomes.

Prepares budget, manages resources, establishes priorities, and modifies environment to meet patient care needs.

Education - uses the nursing process to meet patient/family needs.

Promotes and provides educational opportunities to staff.

Completes/attends all required in-services and unit staff meetings.

Functions as a role model for clinical practice to co-workers, students, customers, and Medical Staff to help build and maintain a professional environment.

Uses problem-solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient, family, and personnel situations that present in the work area/department.

Ability to work with all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.

Competently works with Paragon applications (computer system).

Possess the knowledge to use PYXIS medication delivery system and other unit specific equipment.

Consistently demonstrates the role of patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provider of psych/social/cultural support.

Functional Demands

Work requires physical ability as walking, standing, sitting, etc.

Involves mental activity and problem-solving.

Talking and listening are essential in instructing and supervising personnel.

May be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed patients, patients with communicable diseases, and/or potentially dangerous equipment.

Risk of exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.

Walking and standing for long periods of time depending on workload. Walking intermittently through halls of hospital and outside.

Sitting for long periods of time throughout day.

Lifting - Regularly assists with lifting patients (weights up to 300 pounds waist high).

Routinely lifts boxes, packages and books.

Bending required frequently, 45-90 degree angles, to check patients and operate machinery.

Reading and writing required regularly to follow job description.

HCSG has a custom, state of the art training program! Responsibilities * Manages the foodservice program in a single site according to Healthcare Services Group (HCSG) policies and procedures, and federal/state requirements. * Utilizes protective gear in all appropriate functions * Provides leadership, support and guidance to ensure that food quality standards, inventory levels, food safety guidelines and customer service expectations are met. * Maintains records of income and expenditures, food, supplies, personnel and equipment and provides reports to HCSG District Manager on such. * Makes sure facility has sufficient supplies. * Takes periodic inventories of supplies and materials, trains new employees, and recommends dismissals. * Acts as liaison between building occupants, client managers or administrators and HCSG staff. * The Manager must be able to communicate effectively all directives from client managers, building occupants and administrators to HCSG staff. * Must be able to perform the essential job functions of dietary aide, cook, and dishwasher positions for purposes of training and assisting when there are call-outs. * Training, quality control and in-servicing staff to HCSG standards is an essential part of the Manager's responsibility and includes touring kitchen several times per day to assess work quality using QCIs for documentation purposes. * The Manager is a department head in the facility and must conduct themselves and their department in a professional manner. * The Manager consistently embodies the characteristics necessary to drive the Company's Purpose, Vision, Values, and DNA. Qualifications * A high school diploma or equivalent is required. * Associate's degree or higher in food service management or in hospitality, if the course study includes food service or restaurant management, from an accredited institution of higher learning preferred. * Specialized training in foodservice management and nutrition is desirable. * Current ServSafe certification is required in accordance with State/County law, or must become ServSafe certified within 30 calendar days of hire. * Certified Dietary Manager or Certified Food Service Manager designation where required in accordance with CMS and/or State/County law, or must become certified within a maximum of 9 months from enrollment. * Two years' experience in quantity food production/service and personnel supervision is desired. * Two years or more related dining/nutrition experience is desired. * Skilled in motivating and supervising foodservice personnel. * General knowledge and understanding of nutrition. * Ability to read and understand nutrient analysis reports. * Knowledge of foodservice program requirements. * An understanding of foodservice program finances. * Basic computer skills. * Ability to maintain records and complete reports as required, including web-based reporting. * Written and oral communication skills. * Considerable knowledge of quantity food production and serving techniques, food safety/sanitation requirements and procedures. * Skill in using public relations techniques to promote the foodservice program to client and residents. * Ability to interact positively with residents, client and other personnel and the public. * Good communication, interpersonal skills organizational skills. * Ability to prioritize multiple tasks. * Ability to work effectively with a team. * Ability to work independently as needed to support the group effort.
