Our Corporate Underwriting Team is seeking an Underwriting Director for our General Liability Umbrella lines of business. We are open on the location for the position.

This position is fully Remote.

Position summary:

A leader in our largest combined lines of business nationally with responsibility for our corporate underwriting results across both Commercial and Specialty Businesses. Provides advanced level of expertise and guidance for the Company. Viewed as an expert in GL and Umbrella providing both consultation and guidance on emerging issues, loss trends and good corporate governance. This role works closely with the Business Leadership teams as well as the Field Organization.

This is a Full-time, Exempt role.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Strong collaboration to generate top and bottom-line casualty results, often across multiple business segments.

  • Formulates long term guidance to ensure proper corporate execution.

  • Closely monitors and analyzes loss trends and other developments.

  • Synthesizes internal and external casualty information to make recommendations to senior level leadership.

  • Assumes leadership on potential emerging risks with guidance on how to influence positive results.

  • Responsible for the ongoing training across the enterprise to guide field personnel in underwriting execution and pricing.

Leadership & Coaching:

  • Develop a culture of holding team members accountable for results and results-oriented behaviors.

  • Participates in our Casualty Working Group

  • Creates followers at all levels of the Company.

  • Instills a winning spirit in the organization and with colleagues.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and influence across multiple levels of the organization including executive, senior and field management.

  • Portfolio Development:

  • Achieve desired results thru a multi-discipline environment including Actuarial, Finance, Claims, Operations, IT and Legal.

  • Proactive participation in national industry associations such as panel participation including Verisk, APCIA and others.

  • Develop corporate guidance and other white papers on the leading issues affecting the casualty line of business.

Product Management:

  • Manages national casualty portfolio.

  • Owns results and identifies improvement opportunities.

  • Collaborates with Product including casualty product design, manuscripts and other related investment priorities.

  • Partners with CUOs, ISD's, and others to develop sound underwriting practices to achieve industry goals.

Underwriting Guidance and Support:

  • Accountable for overall corporate governance within the GL and Umbrella lines of business.

  • Assist in companywide education plans for commercial and specialty businesses.

  • Responsible for identifying casualty trends and analyze and recommend the company's response.

  • Makes recommendations for specific underwriting execution.

  • Handles the most complex underwriting referrals that fall outside the authority of field organization.

Required Skills, Key Competencies and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (advanced management degree preferred).

  • 10+ years of commercial lines underwriting.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience within General Liability and Umbrella including the ability to manage results.

  • Professional designations desired but not required.
