Mission or Goal of Unit: The School of Public Health at VCU was established in July 2023, bringing together the departments of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Policy, and Social and Behavioral Sciences under a unified focus on public and population health. The new school was developed during the Covid-19 pandemic as part of VCU's investment to expand public health initiatives at the university. Chief Purpose of this position: The School of Public Health invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, term-track faculty position at open rank to serve as the Director of Undergraduate Public Health Education and Training. The position will have an academic home within one of the four academic departments: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Policy, or Social and Behavioral Sciences with expectation to teach up to two courses per semester and advise undergraduate and graduate students.

Position Responsibilities: The Director will work closely with the school leadership team and the Provost's Office to prepare the necessary proposals to university, state, and professional accreditation and approval bodies for the new major and minor degree program in public health. The incumbent will coordinate curriculum development, including the online course offerings, as well as work across the university to identify courses available in other schools required for the degree. The Director will build a network of providers for practicum placements, internships, and capstone research opportunities, coordinate the curriculum, oversee development of online course offerings, and facilitate career placement and pathways to the VCU MPH program. This position will also oversee the program evaluation process and student assessment once the program is launched.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in public health or a related field
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring
  • Prior training and/or experience in developing curricula, instructional design, and curriculum mapping
  • Familiarity with developing and administering online programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail required for compliance with CEPH reporting requirements
  • Organizational skills required to meet multiple timelines and due dates
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student

environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A degree from a CEPH-accredited program
  • Prior experience in educational program management in public health
  • Prior experience teaching undergraduate students
  • Experience with CEPH accreditation requirements
  • Familiarity with learning management systems such as Canvas
  • Prior experience working with multiple stakeholders involved in undergraduate education
