The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for a full-time Director of Undergraduate Admissions in the Admissions Department. This position reports directly to the Director of Admissions.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of one or more closely related operations or programs in recruiting and admissions. A position at this level may have a portion of time spent performing individual tasks related to the department; however managerial activities are a primary job function. Provides leadership and direction to three or more professional and/or support staff. Responsible for handling a variety of assigned projects. Applies subject matter knowledge.

Provides leadership to staff. Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of business or technical support or production team. Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with other supervisors. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan; receives guidance and oversight from manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Provides day-to-day management oversight to one or more closely related operations or programs in recruitment and admissions.

  • Participates in the strategic planning process. Provides recommendations to senior management re developing, implementing, and revising student services programs.

  • Determines and aligns staff work plans and goals with the overall strategies established for the work unit or department.

  • Supervise a team of counselors who recruit and process applications for undergraduate programs.

  • Initiates, defines and manages projects to enhance and expand current services or programs.

  • Lead undergraduate initiatives to build brand awareness and engagement with the Houston, Texas, national, and international communities.

  • Manages projects and workflow to ensure project goals and deadlines are met.

  • Strategize with senior leadership on optimizing communication.

  • Track the progress of the admissions funnel as it pertains to each term.

  • Provides consultation and training to departments and communities regarding recruitment and admissions.

  • Serves as the functional and technical lead on resolving complex system and/or process issues.

  • Proposes annual budgets for the assigned unit and approves expenditures within assigned budget.

  • Provide reports to senior leadership showing admissions data progress, historical data comparison, and future projections.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbents in this classification may have the authority to perform or to effectively recommend the following actions: hire, transfer, suspend, promote, discharge, assign work, reward, discipline, direct the work of other employees, and adjust grievances.

COMPETENCIES: Intellectual, Interpersonal, Leadership, Organization & Self-Management

  • Professional communication skills, the ability to delegate tasks effectively, and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively to manage a variety of tasks and projects in a timely, accurate and organized manner are essential for success in this role.

  • Proven track record of project management, problem solving, and supervisory skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience

  • Requires Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working within Higher Education.

KSA's: Language, Mathematical, Reasoning, and Computer skills

  • Minimum of five years of experience working within Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Student Information Systems (SIS), preferably Slate and PeopleSoft system.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
