Established in 2018, the Division of Diversity and Inclusion's (D and I) mission is to provide leadership and services, and to advocate for access, equity, and inclusion for historically marginalized and systematically underserved populations. We aspire to create a learning environment in which we prioritize critical thinking, analytical dialogue, and meaningful educational interactions for the collective campus, local, regional, and state-wide communities. The Division creates an inclusive environment for preparedness, global awareness, and service to others. The Division of D and I includes the offices of: ACCESS Center, D and I Office, Center for Transformative Justice (CTJ), Equity and Affirmative Action, Multicultural Student Services, Pride Center, Student Support Services, Upward Bound, and Title IX and Compliance and Youth Protection.

Under the general direction of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion, this position serves as the Title IX Coordinator for campus including faculty, staff, and students. Areas of responsibilities include but are not limited to prevention and mediation of gender discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking, intimate partner/relationship violence, bullying/cyberbullying, and retaliation. The Director is also responsible for federal, state, and UW System University Compliance. This position will report directly to the Vice Chancellor Diversity and Inclusion.

This position also provides leadership and direction of UW La Crosse's compliance with applicable federal, state, and local statutes. The Director of University Compliance will ensure compliance with Board of Regent Policies, UW System and UWL policies, and other applicable regulatory requirements. Leading in a decentralized environment, the Director will develop and manage a comprehensive compliance program ensuring a culture of compliance at UW-La Crosse.

  • Master's degree in human resources, student affairs, public policy, government, legal studies, or other related discipline required.

  • Three years of experience in higher education that includes management of areas described in the general responsibilities above.

  • Experience in conducting and facilitating Title IX investigations and facilitating conflict resolution.

  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external constituencies.

  • Excellent listening, professional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to relate complex information to various stakeholders with various levels of knowledge.

  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations and ability to contribute to the University's commitment to enhancing student awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.

  • Task independence - capacity to work independently when required, especially in ethically complex situations.

  • Knowledge and possession of high professional standards and a personal code of ethics characterized by honesty, integrity, openness, and fairness.

  • Strong leadership and administrative skills include strategic planning, personnel, and continuous improvement assessment of the unit's operations in all areas.

  • Ability to serve as an internal resource and consultant, and work collaboratively with a wide array of faculty, staff and/or administrators

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, project management, problem recognition and resolution skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree in Higher Education, Academic Affairs, Counseling, or related field of study

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated administrative experience in higher education.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience overseeing federal and state compliance requirements.

  • Trauma Sensitivity, Trauma informed training preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Work performed is subject to extended periods using standard office equipment such as a computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse) inputting, reviewing, and retrieving information; extended periods of viewing a monitor or screen; and using printer, fax, calculator, copier, and telephone.

  • Work performed is subject to extended periods of sitting and standing and may be required to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.

  • May require walking between campus offices and/or travel to off-campus locations.
