The Director of Thriving Congregations is a grant-funded position that shall be primarily responsible for strengthening congregations and assisting those at the University to deepen their relationships with God, enhance their connections with each other, and contribute to the flourishing of their local communities. They will create full-day sessions with nationally recognized leaders for the formation and theological reflection. The Director will work with individuals and congregations from a diverse range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds and will demonstrate experience working in intercultural settings and communicating across cultures. The person in this role will report directly to the Provost.

Essential Functions:

  • Executing all aspects of the grant, including, but not limited to, creating a council of elders, organizing monthly meetings, and inviting speakers annually for the Black Church conference.

  • Recruiting and creating annual cohorts of churches.

  • Coordination with FMU faculty and staff to involve them in supporting church growth and development.

  • Prepare promotional material and marketing strategy for the program.

  • Creating and executing monthly facilitator training.

  • Implement and evaluate key deliverables of the Thriving Congregations initiative.

  • Speaking about and encouraging participation in, current FMU academic offerings.

  • Building reports for both Florida Memorial University and the Lilly Endowment, including budget reports.

  • Prepare all budget oversight of Lilly Endowment funds for this grant, in coordination with the assistant director.

  • The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.

  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Terminal degree in theology, ministry, or a related field of study.

  • At least five years of office experience is preferred.

  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule that may include working nights and weekends. (if applicable)
